    Exclamation electrical problem

    Hi all
I seem to be having a problem with my vr1 electrics. When I turn the head lights on the battery light comes on, headlights dim and revs drop, when I pull up say at traffic lights or leave the car idle for a few minutes. This seems to happen only every now and then. I have replaced the C.A.S a few months ago because the car kept stalling. I thought this would fix the lights problem too but it's still happening, I have my sound system set up but I don't think it is draining the battery. I have also noticed that when I turn the air on the revs drop a bit then pick up too. Any help would be great.

sounds like the alternator is on its way out. and when the headlights are on it's trying to draw too much current. might be just the voltage reg which houses the brushes which is worn...

it is also normal for the lights to dim and revs drop and rise etc when the a/c is on. mine does it and ive tested my alternator out put and all is fine.

As moff_man says, its probably worn brushes...a simple fix - 2 screw at the back of the alternator and about $40-50 for a new regulator with brushes fitted. The other possibility is a battery that is on its last legs and/or loose/worn/dirty battery connections and finally a bad main wire connection to the big heavy bolt connector at the back of the alt which can and does become brittle and eventually break.
