    Default vr wont crank over

i perchased a vr series 2 wagon had no power and will not crank over. got it cheap. battery had 4v charged it up out of the car and now has 12.8v. ingnition now lights up, central locking now works, turn the ingnition on and the engine fan works go to start the car and i hear a click from the fuse box in the engine bay but wont crank. test light has power to starter. error code 12 and 31. security light on consel does not light up and warning light on speed alert doesn't light up. i think 31 is no signal from BCM to ECU. should i change the BCM or give something else a go?i am using a vt manual as a reference but i don't know if the wiring diagrams are the same to check voltage at ECU from BCM. it says check 3-5v at A3 RB wire but on my vr RB wire is not in A3 plug but RB wire does have 5.06V. A3 has 0.

    is it my BCM?

You can replace only the key but you have to get it coded to the BCM. Have a look at the wire ring around the ignition. Bend it out a bit so it contacts the key all the way around when the key is turned. But it does sound like the battery in the key is flat.

the battery in the key will not effict the immobilser part of the key.
also check for a clean key, just undo the 2 screws and remove the stalk and give it a clean.

the immo uses the stalk of the key (the cut bit) as an earth if this is dirty than you will get no go
but yes check the key reader and also check the detent switch (park netural switch) my park switch is playing up at the moment and will not allow me to crank sometimes also the immobliser system seems to be working too good in my car because sometimes i need to remove the key fully and start again sometimes due to this fact.

as for the bcm dignostics im not shure.......

netural makes no difference, change the starter relay but still no go. put a screw driver across the starter today. heard a click at the relay box but not at the starter so i will fit another working starter and try again.

Can you borrow another battery, or get a jump start from another car? I'm not sure, but the fact that the battery is putting out 12.8 Volts may not necessarily mean it has enough grunt to crank the engine.

i have tried a jump as well but it is still only a click from the relay box when you turn the key . the motor doesn't move. but you can turn it with a shifter on the pully and hear comprestion in the motor so i know the motor is not seized. i will fit starter motor tues arvo and let you all know thanks.
