Hey guys,
I brought a VS Clubsport a few weeks ago, and after a few days the speedo would work for a few k's then it startd to work properly. Now its still doin it but for longer maybe 10-20minutes of driving then it will work. i mainly does it when its cold or hasnt been drivin for a while(weekend car).
Also once it has starts to work it sometimes bounces, and it does it sometimes when it works as soon as i start the car. if you dont no what i mean there is a link to the vid...

so any help would be great!
thanks troy
Hey mate, I used to have a VS II Berlina with the LVL 3 instrument cluster & it was doing the exact same thing. If you pull the cluster out, you will find a green film looking circuit board at the back of the cluster. Some of the circuits on mine had worn away over time, just from vibration. I had it fixed twice by an auto electrician, but in the end i bought a whole new cluster. Mine had low kilometres, and i was able to get the replacement cluster reprogrammed.
Your options are (depending on funds), DIY job with the circuits.. re-solder them (be careful). Failing that, a replacement circuit board. If this still doesn't work, buy a replacement cluster - they're not too expensive.
In the mean time, i found giving the top of the dash board a gentle tap when it plays up - works a treat.
I had the same as this on my VN CAlais, (same system basically) and it was a wire nearly broken off from the speed sensor on the gear box. I managed to repair it really well with a soldering Iron takes 10 minutes to remove it from the gear box (have a rag handy to stuff into the hole to catch the oil).
Mine has been perfect ever since.... It was bouncing up and down a lot and would stop working for a few Km at a time randomly etc.
Hope that helps, its easier than ripping out the instrument too!
cheers

ok with a VS the speed wire goes from the gearbox, to the ECU, to the instrument cluster. this is different to a VN/VP. if you had some way of plugging in a tech 2, going for a drive, and seeing if your ECU is picking up speed and the dash isnt, then that means the connection between the ECU and cluster is buggered. try taking the cluster out, and checking the circuit board on the back. its all labelled so its easy. just find the pin for the speed signal, and see if it has become cracked. happened to my VN years ago

ok thanks guys, ill do both things, although i dont think it would be the gearbox because when it happens it still reads the fuel used..., hope i dont have to replace the cluster though!!!but see how i go. thanks again
My car still showed fuel used, Inst l/100km, etc etc when it was playing up, the speedo needle was the only thing showing wrong!
Oh and the Cruise control would not hold in....
That was the gearbox end fault.
