today my clutch pedal started making a grinding noise.
what could this be? and also does anyone know the average price or could give me a quote on how much it is to get a t5 gearbox rebuilt with a new clutch.
im aware prices will vary, i am just looking for a ballpark figure.
Its not just a fugged thrust bearing??
i got quoted 750 for my rebuild and thats including everything, there even fitting my new clutch for me
im just saving up atm
Clutch pedal making a grinding noise? Be more specific
1) is the noise only evident when the clutch pedal depressed, AND a gear engaged with the engine running?
2) is the noise only evident when you lightly depress the clutch pedal with the engine running?
3) is the noise only evident as you release the clutch during a gear change?
4) is the noise evident at all when you release the clutch without the engine running?
Narrow it down for us, i'm pretty sure you don't need a rebuild AND new clutch mate![]()

it needs a new clutch coz it is slipping pretty bad in 3rd. and it grinds at the start and the end of depression when moving. doesn't happen as bad when sitting still
its more of a creaking noise and its the pedal i sprayed a bit of wd40 but no luck.
also about thrust bearings, my mate recons mine is done.
coz in the drive thru gearbox was making a noise when in neutral with clutch out but stops when i put clutch in.

how much are thrust bearings? hard to replace?
Thrust bearing is maybe upto $30, but im not real sure. They usually come for free with a clutch kit. Not to hard to replace. 1>Pull out G/gox 2>thrust bearing slides off the input shaft 3>Install is reverse of removal.
lol. thrust bearing is like 60-80
its usually just easier to replace the whole clutch kit. then you get the whole lot replaced and keep your old parts in case you need them.
ohk sweet as. im thinkin bout a exedy heavy duty clutch kit. are they good. and whats diff between heavy duty and cushion button clutch kit?
Dont go button for a street car. There like Wammo and your off(or stalled) and its crap for traffic and stuff. I can however after doing mine recomend a Heavy duty clutch, but the pedal is very heavy and if you do alot of traffic driving your gonna get a sore leg. But definatly worth it if you have the need for it.
I used a Daiken in my car, goes fine. Exceedy are good but i think you pay alot for the brand name too.
