after driven or just sittin in the driveway there is a strong petrol smell , have taken a look at the fuel tank and noticed on the driver side there is a small hose coming out of the petrol tank with a plug on the end of it.. little drops are leaking from the tip of the plug. .. what is the hose a release ? or a drain plug. it leaks fairly slow . if i try fix it is petrol ganna come ****ing out at me?
hey mate, this happens with most post 2000 cars, what happens is, because its so hot, your petrol tank heats up and the petrol expands and pressure builds up, so u lost a bit of fuel in the engine bay cos the pressure is pushing out small amounts of fuel, ul notice this after about 10mins driving in 30degrees+ weather by pulling over and opening ur petrol cap and ul heap a *PERRRSSSSCHHHHHHHH....* and the buildup will exit and you'll get a really strong smell of petrol. Hope that helps anyone also confused about that.
You also have a breather that runs to a charcoal canister, this is supposed to absorb fumes when the fuel vapour expands and vents from the tank. As it cools, any vapour in the canister is sucked into the engine via a hose to the intake. The hose going to the canister may be blocked or kinked causing the fuel to vent out of the hose with the plug on the end of it.
Hi, can anyone please direct me to the above mentioned charcoal cannister and also let me know how to check if it is okay? I have a VS series 2 UTE and the smell is killing me! thanks for any help!![]()
Facing the engine from the front it's on the left hand side of the radiator just under the power steering fluid reservoir - black plastic with black hoses going to the top.
this seems similar to diesel engines that have a overfill pipe that allows excess diesel to spill out. would this be the same or something diffrent?
