Hey everyone
Just enquiring about what options there are into editing ecotec ECU? (VS) From what I've read there is no definition file for the ECU yet people are still editing them. I'm coming from an electrical engineering background so this is something that I hope I can figure out but a push in the right direction would be nice.
From what I've gathered people are pulling the memcals out, downloading the contents of the non erasable chips and 'editing' (changing ignition timings etc) them and them putting the contents back onto a EEPROM chip.
For the VR to the VN this process seems simple due to the XDF files available to edit the BIN files in turner PRO. For the VS is it a matter of making an XDF file and if so where do you start? And also why is it the XDF file happened to stop at the VR motor and nothing was developed/realeased for the ecotec?
Anyway thoughts and opinions would be great. I'm currently working my engineering vac work in tassie so i'm away from my car and can't do alot but I would like to get background on doing this job. Is going out and buying the chip reader and burner, downloading the memcals contents and using some program (if someone can insert program here) a good start or is there another direction I should go?
And cheers to greenfoam for the help his given me so far. I've bought a chip from him and the tune is great and from this his actually sparked my interest in trying to play around with these memcals. If only I bought a VN-VR and this would be easier.
have a look on the moates website. there is some custom made l67 xdf. its not exact, but can be modified to suit an ecotec

I've found that Super6 VS commodore one.
Do you know what the differences is between to L67 and the L36 in terms of that XDF? I've heard the injectors are different thus far...is there any else major that might kill the car if I used that tune?
basically, you should be able to use that xdf to find the spark tables. i think you may need to move them a few hex values, but with a bit of study its not hard. spark tables are the thing you really want to try editing first

Ok I think I've found the spark tables, I'm using the SC XDF file and the BRHP6563 ($51 checksum) bin file from moates.net.
From the XDF file the main spark advance was at address 3954h originally and when you pull the 3D graph up it looks a little shifted but if you move the starting address to 3952h the graph seems to line up.
Is this going in the right direction? Also how do you know the RPM values on the table are correct. They only go up to 4800 (thought it would go to redline), where did that number actually come from?
Also if you look at the 3D data viewer with a 17 by 17 chart there looks to by multiple tables all around the 3900h addresses. Anyone have any idea what they are or know what any other hex addresses are. I'd love to be able to edit the address that control the temp my thermo fans kick in. The one thats in the XDF file seems to be wrong because both fan1 and fan2 are set to 70.
One more question, I've found a supercharged VS commodore bin file on moates and it seems to line up the the SC xdf alot nicer than the stock bin.
What I want to know is what difference apart from the Supercharger and larger injectors are there between the Super6 and NA VS?
Also has anyone tried running this bin file on the N/A commodore and tweaked it to run on there car?
terry theres a VS ecotech $51 xdf here delcohacking.net its rough LOLi found it on streetcomms but has most things just have to fix the row and coloumn labels rpm down the side grams a second across the top im going to tidy it up at some stage.heaps of vs bins there too.the $51 code was changed a few times as well making it need 3 or 4 different xdf's as the hex addresses changed in certian bins.
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
Terry you can find all the tables that are in that incomplete Super 6 xdf in the NA binary and make your own xdf from there, doesn't take too long. A hint is to use a hex editor to confirm the starting address of the maps (that you find with the 2d viewer), it will be obvious when you look. This method works with VS/T and I'd say VX/Y aswell but they have flash tunes, still they could be socketed if you got desperate. I'm more concentrated on the S3 VS's VT 5 litres at the moment
