hey guys.
going to be replacing my brake fluid in my vr.
just wondering whats the best sort for my car. and commodores in general
thanks again![]()
I think i used dot 3 last time, but the higher the dot the better.
very timely question Haydz .. I'm doing mine tonight too.
I reckon all the regular dot 4's are all about the same. I am using Valvoline 'Performance Dot 4', it has a high boiling point. i reckon the PBR dot 4 is ok too. I assume VR's use DOT 4 ?
The fluid we use and recommend is the TRW GP600 brake fluid:
TRW GP600 Dot 4 Racing Brake Fluid
Dry - Min 310
Wet - Min 204
That's about the best out there short of Castrol SRF, or GS610. But significantly cheaper than either of them at $59 for a 1L bottle.
For comparison, some other popular brands:
Motul Dot 5.1
270 dry
185 wet
Castrol Response Super Dot 4
286 dry
184 wet
Valvoline Performance Dot 4
270 dry
Your regular Dot 4's are a fair bit lower than that.

The legal minimum boil temperatures for Dot 4 is dry 230 and wet 155 - that's about what your el-cheapo $6 per 500ml brake fluid rates at.
The reality is that most people don't drive racing cars and the el-cheapo brand will perform as well as expensive name brands under normal driving conditions.
What ever you do, keep track of what you use as you can't mix DOT3 and DOT4.
I'm pretty sure the VR's were DOT3 from factory as the DOT4 wasn't around in '93. But it is only a guess.
Well, im replacing all my fluid with dot 4 tommorow, due to track day![]()
me too ... just its a week later![]()
