Hey, basically I just bought a VR about 4 months ago. The car has never been a problem heat wise (usually up to the second/third line) until this weather in Adelaide (40-45degree's). The thermo is now going up to half way while driving, then goes up further at the traffic lights, then goes down to half way while driving again. I know that people say its because of the heat, but that's crap. Point of fact is A GOOD CAR SHOULD NOT OVER HEAT NO MATTER WHAT WEATHER IT IS.. Could this be a seperate issue? I have checked the Coolant, that's all fine, checked the radiator, that looks fine. WHAT ELSE? I've never owned a VR before, only VL's.
Could be a few things mate, mine tends to heat up a bit as well, not sure why. But circulation of coolant could be bad (something stuck somewhere along the lines and coolant isn't flowing properly). Your thermostat could also be broken, maybe one of your sensors...
As for the hot weather thing....I went driving the other day while it was 40+ deg outside, car was sitting above half way the whole time....went for a drive that night and it didn't pass 1/4....So yes the eat can have part on how hot the car gets...
is it using coolant at all, this happened to my vn and ended up being water inlet gasket
hi there,
had the same problem with mine, although I have a new engine in mine and I worked out it is just the thermo fan kicks in really late for when the guage shows 3/4 hot. I know this cause when I got the car back with new engine in they forgot to hook up the thermo fan and I've tested it out several times after checking all the coolant radiator and everything else.
When in the car sitting in traffic at the lights you can also noticeably hear (turn off stereo) the fan kick in and start to drop down the temp. The other thing I did was move the number plate up 40millimetres cause it's just hanging infront where it shouldnt be.
works for me![]()
my vr sits on 1/2 around town and goes up to 3/4 at a stop, it also has only been doing it since the temp has been 40 - 50 deg (deniliquin tep on friday was 49 deg was ment to get to 46 but still)
have you checked if your thermofan is turning on? if its not that would explain why its getting hot when you arent moving as no air is being circulated through the radiator.. is your radiator clogged up with bugs and dirt and shit off the road?.. is your thermostat opening up?.. does the engine have the right amount of oil in it?.. more friction causes more heat.. and the oil actually helps dissapate the heat too..
a few things for you to check.
