Hey all, just wondering how much oil pressure a standard ecotec oil pump puts out? im mainly talking to the guys who have press guages....
The reason being that i am getting a guage soon, and i have found the perfect face and illumination, but it goes all the way up to 140psi and i didn't want the needle to barely move up the dial to say 30 and have it basically useless.
Cheers
Goose!
Normal running oil pressure for a vs v6 is 66psi at 1500rpm and above and about 60psi at idle.
my gauge goes from 1 - 100 and oil pressure is usually from 50psi min upto about 75psi max
heres a pic of mine at idle

awesome, cheers guys!
Should look ok as the needle sweeps just over 3/4 of the guage face...
Thanks heps!
also wondering, do most auto gauges come with multiple adapters for universal fitment, or is that another expense i should take into account?
yeah the sender should have the right thread on it or an adapter, my autometer one had an adapter which made it fit
Well this one is alot cheaper than an auto meter... My car has never seen a track so i don't need a really good guage..... YET! , its just a "Calibre" from supercheap... I got it because it has a really nice face, and the lighting will match my guage clusterits all for the cosmetics.
But yeah it did come with an adaptor, but i don't know if that would be the right size to fit the ecotec engine...
Any info on the fitting size? and also is the idea of the oil guage to totally replace the factory sensor?
the factory pressure sensor is a pressure switch so when there is no oil pressure the engine light comes on, some people like to have both which requires a T piece adaptor but i dont see the point because you would see the oil pressure going down way on your gauge before you see the engine light on
From memory the thread size needed is 1/4 NPT and most gauges do come with this size because it is a standard oil line thread used in many cars. Personally I would'nt just do away with the factory pressure switch and leave it hanging there, just screw a t-piece into the housing first and then screw your factory pressure switch and new pressure sender into that, it will be neater and if you have the option of also having the oil pressure warning light in the dash working why not use it. Any good brake/hydraulics business will be able to get you the t-piece.
