hey guys, i got a vr v6 which i converted from auto to manual, and the diff seems to be pretty tall.. i have to keep the revs up pretty high to get it to take off from a stand still. its still running the auto diff at the moment but i have a manual diff here. is there much difference in the gearing??
Stock auto diff ratio is 3:08....
auto and manual have the same diff ratio.
i agree it is too tall for the manual box... i'm getting 3.7's soon.
thanks guys... so unless i change my centre, im gunna be up for a new clutch on a very regular basis then.. fantastic thats what i want
or learn to drive manual? what revs do you need to take off at
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
It takes a bit of clutch to get a commodore to start rolling since they are heavy, it'll still last for ages so don't panic about it
hey stocky, how bout you come teach me smart arse???? i been driving manuals a long time. dont tell me i cant drive! it needs to be held at least 2500 while easing off the clutch otherwise it stalls.. kinda like the handbrake is on. everyone that tries to drive it, stalls it
well it sounds like somethings not setup right. clutch cable isnt stretched or anything?

well i was actually thinkin something like that. the clutch has never felt right since it was put together. and the clutch pedal sits about 60mm higher than the brake.. it shudders all the time.
My clutch is the opposite, sits lower than the brake pedal.
Either way, if your having to use 2500rpm to get going, theres a problem, i can take of at 1500 no probs in my 2 tonne slug!

if you really dont like how tall the gearing is just change your diff gears... get em off ebay for about $150 bucks... not too hard to change probably take you 2-3 hours.. 3.45's should be good if you just want to slip the clutch that little bit less...
but if your pedal is sitting 60mm higher than the brake pedal then theres definatly something wrong.. did you install the clutch?
in the bell housing theres a little pivot ball that the cluch fork pivots on and it can be adjusted.. this will change the height of your pedal and will also changed where the clutch engages.. if you're good on the tools you can pull the gearbox off and adjust this yourself... it takes a bit of trial and error so you may have to adjust it and put a few bolts in to hold the gearbox on and test the clutch and then take it off and adjust it more and so on..
hope this helps man
Adam.
thanks adam, nah i didnt fit the clutch or box.. left that up to a mate. the box is actually coming out of the car this week after finding a lot of metal shavings in the oil. so ill get the man to adjust that ball etc while he is at it
Are you sure that you gotta take the whole gearbox out just to adjust the clutch? im sure there is an adjustment winder on the clutch cable itself outside the gearbox under the plastic mud cover where the cable meets the clutch cable hook on the box. When you say you converted to manual, did you also change to a manual harness and ECU or you still using the auto pcm and harness? Does your engine light on the dash stay on all the time?
