I'vve been building up my VR Berlina for a while now and gotten it pretty tidy... so i walk out to the car on friday and think "thats funny, the windows are dark..." turns out that can of black enamel i left in there... kaboom. I've been getting quotes and it looks like its a write off... anyone else experienced something similar, or an even funnier/more tragic way of writng off your baby?
mega bugger
lol thats a ****er. couldnt imagine your reaction to that once you open the door. reminds me of something from mr bean, with the dynamite in the paint can.
similar thing happened the other day though. went to grab a pepsi out of my centre console. the top of it had half come off, and the drink had exploded. luckily it was contained in the console.

Mum told me she had a ciggy lighter explode in the car the other day. Luckily she wasnt in it at the time. Just said there was plastic bits all over the car, even all over the back seat! Pays not to smoke.
yeah i had similar thing happen to me my m8 left cig lighter on top of washing machine and it blew up and caught fire slightly
bad luck bout the car though champ
damn that sucks, I would be so ****ed!!..... Is it a good car in the ways of mechanically and a good body? If so have you thought about if its worth the time and money for new interior instead of writing it off?
actually, if anyone wants to paint their interior the cheap and easy way, try this![]()
Yeah mate, its mint... I bought it from the estate of some old codger last year and he had only driven it to about 110000kms, body and interior were immaculate. I'm seriously considering a Statesman or Calais interior into it, what do you guys reckon? My only problem is I have to be at uni in three weeks and our wreckers is terrible, never has any decent parts. I live in Horsham btw
Well now u have your 5% tint lol. Man that would be one hell of a let down. I had a deodorant can in the car for a day and it was so hot to handle I couldn't even pick it up...But wouldn't of been as bad as a paint can exploding if it did go.
Have you got any pics?
yeah ill get pics up tomoro but the old man flogged my camera for now. Serioously struggling to find any decent interiors to go in it. would late model seats switch in without much work?
mate that is such a downer.
sad to hear the heatwave has claimed another life !
all the best with trying to get it back on its feet.
you could always clean the windows up so you can see :P then drive it around with some crap ass seat covers on it untill you locate an interior.
don't let the insurance company have it, they are ****ers.
Pics! Show us the carnage!
aww that sucks.. yeah, when you get the chance, show us some pics![]()
yeah, don't let the insurance company have it....
They will write it off, and give you SFA for it, then they will fix the interior and sell it for twice what they gave you.... Coz its mint, hold on to it and fix the interior when you have time.....![]()
Have you tried scraping the paint off the windows with a razor blade ? I reckon they might come up all right
erm, dont use a razor if you have tint, i'll talk to the guys at work and see which solvents will disolve 99x based resins but wont affect tint, at a guess i'd say turps, then you will need to clean the turps off, yes the car will smell for a while.
The solvents in the paint probably flashed off almost straight away when they hit the hot glass, saving the tint (If any) from a nasty spot of damage.
pix pix pxi pix pix we want pix please,
Geez, that's bad. I thought Mythbusters proved this theory wrong.
I hope you get it sorted dude.
Yours Kindly,
Jim
yeh as said above im very sceptical until i see pics y would it be a write off insurance wouldnt pay for that if it was ur fault wouldnt be covered would it? pics would be good then il be convinced
