G'day,
Ive got a 93-94 VR, and as its been bloody hot lately, so the air-cons been pumping. Been fine forever, but the last couple days clean water has been dripping from under the dash (near left leg of driver ) and also from under the backseat air con vents on the tail of the dash piece.
Is this the air-con leaking? or the evaporator playing up maybe? it only happens when the air cons on and after a few days my beautiful VR is now smelling like a mouldy dog kennel, reminds me of my old HR..
anyway... any possibly have any ideas what required to fix this up? or whats causing it? im sure the dash needs to come out and i know thats not cheap.
Go to an a/c specialist they can probe your a/c system to see fi theres any blockages causing the leak, common problem on commodores and cheap to fix if it is a blockage..
Sounds like your air conditioner is working fine but also sounds like your drainage tube from the air conditioner has come off from the back of the unit or you have a blockage.
Thanks guys, yeah the Air Con is working perfectly, like its frosty cold but have the water problem - and the dripping water is cold as ice too.
Will take it to an air-con specialist, im broke as so i hope he doesnt rape my wallet!
Just get under the car and look for a drain hose poking out of the body, just above the transmission on the passenger side. Poke something up there gently to dislodge any crap. That will cost you nothing. I did mine last week because it was blocked too.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
A wire coat hanger unwound and with the end bent back over itself to blunt the end works well to clean the drain tube. Be prepared for an impromptu shower if the tube is completely blocked when you clear it.
The advice to be gentle is sensible as the evaporator case is lined with polystyrene insulating foam which you can damage if you get too carried away.
You can minimise the possibility of a recurrence by cleaning any leaves from the ends of the area just under the windscreen wipers, accessible with the bonnet raised. Ensuring that the plastic grilles are in place there helps too.
I use a long cable tie. Wont do any damage to the pipe that way. Once you hit the right spot water comes flooding out. At least a litre I would think, so be ready to move.
wouldnt be able to post a pic of this drain hole? ive noticed only lately that a few drops are coming out when a/c is on
