Gday JCers.Dropped the tank today.Put in a new fuel pump and filters.Holden wanted $240 for their brand pump.Got it for $104 from Repco.I Pulled out the old pump/sender and it wasnt connected to anything inside the tank.Read something about the return being connected inside the tank.
Very basic description in the Gregorys.Doesnt tell you where the return connects to.The return was connected at the opposite end to where the pump is,where you undo the 6 little bolts. But wasnt connected in the tank.
I take it its supposed to connect in there somewhere.Or does it just go in without connecting to anything?
I found a little piece of electrical tape and this little bit (pictured ) that was snapped off the end of the return rolling around in the tank. Can someone give me some advice as to what this is? And if it connects to anything in the tank? Is this why i get the stalling when it gets to a quarter of a tank and leaning into the gutter and then starts again when rolled onto level ground? Thanks again.

the separate bit of hose in pic 1 and 2 is meant to be connected to pic 3 and that is meant to be connected to the swerlpot in side the tank. on the other end of the hose the quick connector connects to the pump return line ie the other metal tube not the one that the pump is connected to
and yes this is why there is no fuel pressure when at 1/4 tank and leaning as the return fuel acts like a lift pump and lifts the fuel in to the swirl pot sorta like a siphon effect....
Managed to see inside the tank with a torch in the shade.I found out where that little broken off bit goes.In the bloody swirlpot theres a little hole. And guess what fits in there. The broken bloody piece of crap that the holden designers have engineered.Gees real quality.Maybe they can make it out of Hubba bubba chewing gum next time.
Great work Holden.Good job.Such made to last parts.Genuine Holden quality.I wanna be a Holden engineer when i grow up.Plastic crap. They could have thought of something a little more tougher.Like maybe an alluminium or steel bit.But that costs too much for them. But they charge top dollar for their plastic cars.
Feel better now.Just Holden together in my case anyway. Here i come Toyota.Lol.
Onya moffy.Youre dead right man.I just took a look in there and found it.Ive had the stalling on the lean to left for 7 years.I bought it like that. The bloke i bought it off probably was copping it too.Probably why he sold.Lol.And thanks for confirming that is why its been stalling for nearly a decade.Fair dinkum.WAKE UP HOLDEN.YOU CAN DO BETTER. Youre a champion moffy. Thanks matey.![]()
Your pump has probably been replaced previously and badly installed. Most fuel return hose problems are caused by 'mis-adventure' - in pix #2, it appears the hose clamp has not been tightened by whoever replaced the pump.
Don't be too hard on Holden - if you look in a Toyota tank you'll find the same type of plastic in exactly the same place - ever heard of the Toyota Lexcen? (rebadged Commodore VR/VS).
Gday hako.Yeah the fuel pump was replaced along with internal/external fuel filters around 4 years ago to try and solve the stalling when around a quarter of a tank full and leaning to the left either driving,or still, and idling. But the mechanic of almost 40 years and business owner couldnt work it out.
He told me at the time that he has never experienced this sort of stall before.Fair dinkum. What sort of show is he running? As soon as i got on this site, fuel return pipe stalling issues were rife. And still are. And hes still in business. It was stalling before he touched it.
And was stalling the same after the above mentioned parts were replaced. So it must have happenned right at the beginning of the cars life. The clamp was on pretty tight. It shows 2 notches on either side of hose, cause of the 2 bits on the plastic fitting.Probably pushed in too far ya reckon?
I changed the fuel pump because of the random stalling. And then waiting for about an hour and would start up.Just hope that it solves the stalling.I just hope its not another CAS.But the error codes would show up for that.Or the wiring its connected to may have issues. Thanks matey for your advice. And my VS is a Toyota Lexcen CSI.Lol.But with Holden badging.

Few pics in this thread of the fix. You need to cut a hole in the tank and patch it afterward.
need help asap v6 stalls turning right only
