Hey,
i have a few questions about my vs ute
1) I want to start putting in some audio equiptment, have scabbed a head unit and amp so far (Will get pics of both soon), i was thinking of adding a sub(in the hole in the tray) some new speakers in the door and putting some 6X9 in the back wall of the ute, because the wall is just a plate of metal would it get defected if i cut holes in it for the speakers? im guessing would need to put another wall behind the one thats in it now, or build boxes around the back of the speakers to protect them. The head unit has 2 subwoofer plugs and the amp is only 2 channel so would i be better off running the 6X9 speakers or the speakers in the doors through the amp?
2)Is there a tool i can get to remove the window winder? i have tried using a rag but cant get it off
4) I have also reciently painted my dash and i put it all back in. how do i put the headlight switch in correctly?
i can get it in the hole but the arrow is never pointing towards the icon, its always out of alignment
5) out the back of the aircon control there is a shiny rod with a white clip on the end, it looks like it has come uncliped from somewhere, where does it go?
6) i got a new gear boot ( I got a manual) and the instructions say to use the old clip to hold it in but it didnt have a metal clip holding it in, can somebody please post a picture of one so i know what im looking for.
7) Where can i get a good chip or tune that isnt a $20 ebay rip off?
i dont mind buying off ebay as long as it isnt one of those "chips" that just trick your ecu
8) can anybody recomend a cheap soft cover torneu
Thanks

1) dont worry about 6x9s if your going a sub next to the fuel tank, definetly don't cut the back wall it could potentially write your car off without it being engineered.
2) I used a very small screw driver to get the clip open, be persistant it isn't that hard and will eventually come off. Its frustrating i know.
3) ??
4) is the light selector locked in the right position or is the knob incorrectly put on?
5) is your air con/heater control, that rod just has to be connected to that white clip over the threaded part.
6) will depend if its a series 1 or 2, series 1 is a rubber boot im pretty sure, mine was a series 2 (getrag box) and had a leather boot. most aftermarket ones will not fit very well, there should be a black ring that is clipped in.
7) PM greenfoam, although unsure if he does memcals for vs? think he does.
8) cheapest QUALITY cover will most likely be a tuff tonneau from supercheap, autobarn etc. Supercheap definetly stock them, or try your luck at ebay.
Get yourself a workshop manual whilst your at it as i found it helped alot
Those 6 u shaped gold clips are used to keep your injector lead clipped in place on the injector. Without them the lead can vibrate its way off and you will quickly develop a misfire. Pull off your engine cover and then remove the electrical lead from each injector. If you have a close look at the plastic plug on the end of the lead you will see that there is a little groove on two opposite sides and the gold clips slip into this little groove and will stay there if clipped in properly. To reconnect to the injector you just push it on as you did before and you should hear it 'click'. Also, for future reference, when removing the injector leads you do not have to remove the clips, simply squeeze them into the plug and pull. They will come right off and leave the clips attached to the lead.
Dont cut a hole to mount speakers behind the seats as this is illegal as that panel is considered structural.
You can buy special clip removal tools to remove your window winder but its not worth it once you work out how to do it. The clips will look similar to those left over from your injectors and can be removed with a rag as you said by pulling it down left and right, between the winder handle and the spacer washer but be careful because this method usually results in it flying somewhere. Best method is to use a very small flat bladed screwdriver as gustov said to try and push the end of the clip off.
The shiny rod with white plastic on the end connects to the heater box to differentiate between hot and cold fan temperature. It connects to a big black box on the left hand side of the drivers side footwell to an arm that can pivot back and forth.
As for the manual boot this is held in by a black rectangular piece of plastic which is then held in place by 4 push on clips that hold it to the manual shifter insert piece.
ok thanks, if i replace the 2 standard speakers and add a sub+Amp will that give good sound or is there another addition i should add the the system? im not looking to win any soundoffs i just want nice loud but clear audio, clarity is more important the volume
thanks,
is there anyway to stop/prevent them from fading so quick or is there a way to make them black again after they've faded

good set of splits in the doors and maybe some dynamat will do wonders. Get a four channel amp to run the sub and speakers, the extra power will enhance the clarity.
I use to use armourall protectant for the soft cover, seemed to blacken and shine it up really well
u can buy window winder removal tools from supercheap for like, $6 or something. I've used mine on about 10 diff cars now and it never fails.
I put a 12" subby in the long range fuel tank spot in my ute. Its ok, but i had to be very picky with the sub to get one that wasn't too deep to fit the box, in hindsight i think i would of been better off getting a good quality 10" as the box is very small.
cheers,
-Tom
