I have just blown the auto in my vs series 2 v8 ute and am wondering what other models I could nick an auto transmission from. My local wreckers has a VR box, a VP SS box and a pile of VT boxes. The only other option is to rebuild the one that is in. Either way I need to do it soon coz I wanna sell the car.
anyone know what auto transmissions can be transplanted into my ute?
Cheers
depending on the year model of the ute the vt's ones might fit as the vs utes carried on while the sedans stoped and the vt's started.
being series 2 i would think you will need a vs s2 box to suit, dont quote me on this tho....
Dont quote me on it but isnt there a difference in the wiring harness between the models ie: number of wires for the internal solenoids etc...might play havoc with the computer....i know it doesnt answer your question but is something you might have to look out for....you could ring Holden and ask them if theres a difference between the boxes 4hdd 5hdd etc...
I'm pretty sure the V8's have a different box to the V6's - both are 4L60E's but the V8 has a deep pan. The old box should have a white sticker on the bellhousing saying 6HDD or similar - that will be the best one to refit. Good Luck.
Does the 4l60e box have common bellhousing stud pattern to most commodore models both V6 and V8? Because everywhere I have looked the model for the auto box in just about any commodore is the 4l60e.
The guy at the wreckers wreckons a VR box will fit into a VS without any dramas, but whether or not it has the correct wiring and solenoids is another matter I guess. Perhaps I would be better off having the original box rebuilt before I sell the car.
