Swirlpot fuel return connection position

Gday Jcers.Im buying the plastic swirlpot fuel return fitting from Holden and will be finding out which position the cut out t-piece section faces once installed into the swirlpot.Id just like to know if there is anyone who has installed one and which way they faced it for the correct operation? And what purpose the t-piece serves? Thanks.

Update.Couldnt buy the swirlpot plastic fitting.Had to buy another tank from the wreckers with return line connected to swirlpot.Put it all back together,and no more stalling when leaning to the left and under half a tank.The fuel return line in the tank can cause major stalling if not connected to swirlpot at one end and connected to return pipe on the other end.
