    Default DIY lsd install?

how easy is it to install a lsd into a live axle diff? is it as easy as pulling out axles , removing diff cover, undoing tailshaft and removing diff then put the gears on the lsd centre? i know there is more to it than that but i would rather give it a go myself than forking over hundreds of dollars for someone else to do it. i've done other things myself liking replacing all suspension comoponents but i haven't done anything to the driveline yet but i wanna learn.

so has anyone got any special tips i should know before giving it a go myself?

my advice is to leave it to a pro... its well worth the couple hundred to have it done properly, and also be covered if something that they did fails.
Hit me up with some reputation points if i've helped you out! (Star in the bottom left!) Cheers!

I'd be looking at getting the whole LSD in one piece - hub to hub. That way you are fitting a complete LSD rear axle with no hassles. Should also be a lot cheaper in the long run. Trouble with doing it this way is that you don't have the fun of pulling it apart.

gregorys manual should have a step by step guide for you to read if you have it... if you dont have it then get it coz its probably the most useful book you'll ever buy... i rebuilt my whole gearbox using the gregorys manual for reference! =D
just pull it apart take your time and maybe take some photos at different stages so you have somthing to look at when you cant remember which way the parts go in lol... you'll feel much better about it knowing that you did it once its done =D... its only replacing the diff centre so there isnt too much you can stuff up... i would have went the step further and reco'd the lsd
coz im kinda like that.... think i can do everything when its actually a speciallist job.. haha... it'll work out mate... its how you learn things =]

Backlash is how tight the mesh is between the crownwheel and pinion gears. The amount of backlash can be felt when you grab hold of the crownwheel and jar it up and down to feel the amount of knock (backlash) in it. As a rough guide (and assuming that your diff has not been played around with before) the amount of backlash that your single spinner has now is about the amount you want with your new lsd centre installed, taking into account wear that will be presently in your diff.
