Mine was terribly warn out, I couldnt even press it in (if I did, it would get stuck in).
You can unscrew it normally I believe, I had to use a philips head screwdriver and hack away at it til it was all gone.

they only eject if the rubber is worn out and it doesnt stay on the shaft under the pressure of the spring, ive seen them hit windscreens while driving funny as you dont expect it...

if you just pull the button off the spring stays over the shaft & doesnt eject and is very easy to push back on

    Default Common Problem!

It was common in the VS for the handbrake button to "spread" with use and get caught in the handle. I went through a second one, but the problem recurred some years later. The last one that I bought was of a much firmer rubber, and it was fine for many years.

As previously advised, the button fits on the shaft by interference fit over a knob. It pulls off with enough effort.

How can it crack you in the face given its position relative to your driving position?
