Default Painting VS radiator grill - what colour

The radiator grille on my VS is starting to look like crap. The chromed edge is bubbling and the much of the inner part is peeling off.

So I guess I will have to repaint them but what colour? The car is white with a red and black strip, so I figured the easiest option would be remove the paint off the ones I have, paint them with plastic primer, and just go for a silver colour - similar to the current colours. I could also try black.

Has anyone else got any good colour schemes?

The other option would be to put a Calais style grille on it, if I could find one. Has anyone done this to a commodore/berlina? Does it look ok?

Well I found a Calais grille in reasonable condition for the wreckers, and, yeah it looks good!

Lol exactly what i was thinking ^^^^

Just paint it the same as the old one mate. It will start looking weird if you mix a whole heap of colours on the one car.

Save the mixed colour schemes for a custom re spray on your car later down the track, unless done properly, it will look tacky and dodgy, just like you did it yourself

I was just going to paint the old ones silver, but when I pulled them off I noticed that the chrome edging was quite badly damaged. I always figured it was just chrome paint , but it is chrome foil, and I couldn't get the rest of it off without damaging the plastic. So I decided to replace them. It was suggested to me to replace them with a Calais grille, and I thought it wasn't going to look very good (see the story below), but they look ok.

Anyway next part of the story:

I have had this car for ~8 years - it has a red stripe around it, unlike any I have seen before on any Berlina (or commodore for that matter). Much wider than the red strip you see on S-pack commodores or utes. I never gave it much thought because I assumed it came from the factory like that (the red strip is why I thought the Calais grille might look strange).

Turns out that the previous owner has just run red tape over the original chrome strip, which explains why I haven't seen one the same before. The car doesn't look sporty at all, standard rims - no spoiler, so it looks sort of confused with the red stripe.

So I am thinking of pulling the tape off, and my questions are:

Would the tape have damaged the chrome at all?
If not, what would you used to clean the sticky crap off with? Then would you use car polish or silvo or something else to shine it back up?

    thanks.
