    Default IRS Diff Leaking

Been having a leaking problem since I filled up my diff with new oil. For the first few days, I noticed the new blue oil had leaked a bit back onto the ground, not from the actual diff itself, but from the mount thing behind it. Noticed another browner puddle under there today. What could cause a leak from this section, and is it any easy fix?

Sounds like the breather pipe. You may have over-filled it a little? Mine leaked from there for a while after I installed the diff in the VP.

hmm i thought i filled it up enough. i stopped filling when it started coming out of the filler hole on the side. havent noticed any more leaks yet, but the diff does seem a bit noisy around 60km/h or so

Get under there and give it a good cleaning, will make it so much easier to find where the leak is coming from.

Could be the filler or drain plugs, back cover seal, axle or pinion seals or the breather as mentioned.

The browner looking oil too is probably your nice fresh blue stuff mixed with the oil leftover in the diff casing.

yeah i cleaned it today. it looks like its leaking from the chassis, where the bracket at the rear of the diff bolts onto it. the one with 4 bolts, however there is only 3 bolts, and the 4th one has been snapped off so i cant get a new one in there easily. there are also two bolts hanging down on the passenger side next to this bracket that are not connected to anything. would that just be for a tow bar?

Yeah - I did the same thing and it leaked out the breather for a few hundred km and since then has been fine.

just to confirm, the breather hose seems to be at the top of the diff, and runs back into the chassis, then it seems to leak from the place i mentioned above
