Hey guys. How do you change the idle on a 5L v8.
I have only been able to change idle on cars from the 70's etc lol. I have no clue on where i can adjust it.
Thanks in advance.
its set in the tune and cant be adjusted without burning a new chip
Yer, but he said V8 (dizzied) not V6 (DFI)
Adjust the throttle cable!!! and take out some slack via the two nuts on the mounting plate to bring it to 850rpm/900rpm.
the IAC controls the idle and is controlled by the ecu adjusting idle any other way is just asking for problems!!!!!!
If it's stock and not idling at the right speed there's something wrong with it that's about as black and white as it gets. The IAC might not be working or the timing might be out etc
I want it to idle lower. I dont see why it has to idle at 700 rpm.
If i changed it to 500 what problems would i run into.
The reason i want it lower is because i just like a lower idling v8.
About 650 is stock your tacho is out 50 rpm (better than most). 500 rpms would be doable but it might be a bit wonky running that low
why cant you just back off the little throttle stop adjusting screw on the top of the throttlebody. its usually got a green plastic cap on it. take ya air intake pipe off between airbox and throttlebody, and with engine running place finger over the hole for the pvc hose, hole is just inside throttlebody opening. then while ya finger is sealing the pvc hole the engine rpm will drop , then back off the little throttle screw till ya engine is just ticking over without stalling . when ya take finger off the pvc hole you will hear the engine make a helluva sucking noise and rpm will rise . after a few seconds engine rpm will settle . this is how you set the base idle , no good if you idle any lower than this. just make sure you adjust ya throttle cable first, so its not too tight or too slack.......cheers.
I did that to my Clubby the other week, I actually picked up the revs on mine a bit, that screw works for sure but the IAC solenoid will adjust the RPM back to around 800 RPM roughly after a few seconds. The screw lets the throttle plate stay cracked a little, and it made mine run a lot smoother (I only moved it 1/4 turn mind you).
Cheers

I mean that the throttle plate (butterfly) inside the throttle body stays partially opened (or 'Cracked') by a little more than usual. It will never be fully closed at Idle but it will come very close. By adjusting the throttle stop screw it adjusts the butterfly open more or closed more depending on how you turn the screw!
I hope that cleared up what i was saying???
cheers
Richard
The screw on the throttle body is just to setup the blade, the IAC will still set the idle to where its set in the tune (unless you've gone out of it's range with the screw or the IAC is broken). It's not a idle screw
