Hey guys how are you all?
I've been on this forum a bit lately and there's a bunch of great info that has helped me out a lot but I was wondering if you could all help me out with a few questions??
Now I'm quite new to cars, just got my P's and a VR Berlina, it's had a new engine put in and the only issue I'm having is this:
When I accelerate, before the cars gears up I believe, it goes to about 3.5k on the Revs. When I'm at 70km it they sit at 3k. This happens majority of the time, but sometimes if I'm lucky it stops doing it for like about 15 minutes from when I turn it on.
I have checked the error codes and gotten this:
22 - TPS (Low voltage)
69 - TCC Stuck ON
83 - TCC PWM Solenoid Fault
Any help on this would be great
Cheers guys!
Hi, I would be replacing the TPS (throttle position sensor) first, because that can cause the other 2 problems if it isn't working up to scratch. No TCC, fixed shift points, harsh shifts, high line pressure, and also no forth gear in hot mode. These are probably the symptoms you will be having if the TPS isn't working accordingly.
Replace the TPS and see how you go.
After you've done as Wavez suggests, remove the engine fuse for 10 seconds to erase the logged faults. The only other thing I can think of for this problem is a short in the TCC solenoid but Wavez's suggestion sounds on the money. Good Luck.
Ahh! Yeh, that sounds about right. Thanks for all the help guys, I'll post up what happens when I get this fixed.
Does it cost much to get it replaced? Cheers
I cannot help you with an exact price to replace the TPS but I can say that you will be charged maybe $120 for a new TPS plus an hours labour $90 plus you need to drop the car at the mechanics for a full day and arrange lifts to work etc.
The alternative is to buy a Gregorys manual (about $45) and a multimeter from Dick Smiths or Supercheap (~$15) then perform the tests outlines in the Gregorys manual to decide if the TPS is faulty. Then if the tests prove it is faulty you buy a new TPS and fit it following the instructions in the manual. You can do this at your leisure...maybe Sat arvo or whenever.
Your outlay comparison is $210 to get a mechanic to do the job and $180 max to do it yourself. Plus you have the manual to enable you to perform many jobs you previously paid big cash for....and the big bonus which money cannot buy is the satisfaction of knowing that you can do it yourself and have.
Finally you have this forum with some pretty clued up characters on it to help you.
Good Luck.

if its a gear box check out ebay i have a bunch of tested solinoids going cheap
The issue itself is that I get no intermediate gear changing in any gear. At 3500+ rpm it'll change but otherwise no dice :S
And yet on first start in the morning after let it warm up it will change just fine for about 20 minutes. I haven't had a chance to take it to a good auto tech yet. Does anyone know any in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne???
have you checked the fluids in your trans?
if these fault codes are logged they may be old, disconnect your battery for 10mins, reconnect run your car around for 20 mins making sure you drive to good speeds, and making sure you pull up to pleanty of intersections... get it back home re check error codes as these will be newly logged codes...
if the same, then chances are your trans is dying, and will need a major service or most likely need replacing...
a replacement unit will set you back about $400 from an honest wrecker, add another $300 for installation, depending on where you take it to fix the replacement trans...
Good luck mate.
Cheers mate, I'll do that and see how we go![]()
Just to get this right in my head. If the TCC is screwed, the fixed shift points could be for example, the 3500rpm I'm experiencing at the moment? And this is why when I let go of the accelerator it doesn't change gear but feels like it's in neutral until I accelerate enough to catch up???No TCC, fixed shift points
I just want to get my head around this!
Took it to a tech today.
Solenoid is gone and the tranny fluid was nearly empty :S
$180 for a service and replacement solenoid!
WOOO!
cheers for the help guys
