they are the same colour mate, and they are 'slipped' over the edge of the glovebox cover, fuse cover etc, and screwed in at the back.
it was a standard feature on the series 2, not sure if it was available on the series 1 tho.
PM if you want pics mate, more than happy to help

Thanks every one for all the replys
seraphic, That's what im looking @ doing for my calais! Looks very nice! did you go through these guys:Dashboard Centre - car accessory & car interior experts - woodgrain, carbon fibre, aluminium and many more
I got a quote for $445, but they will need to recover all my original "black"console/dash plastics with there own woodgrain pattern and it wont be the same pattern as the woodgrain that i have on my door trims frpm factory, and to me that would look out of place, so unfortuneatly i will have to pay a little extra & get them recovered in the same pattern to match.
wich is also why im looking @ different pics of the woodgrain strip that runs along the dash! Because the problem is that if i could get the woodgrain strip that runs along the dash in just a basic plastic strip then i could probably buy it for next to nothing, I then would send it off with the rest of my pieces to be covered in the woodgrain color ect. but seeing as you can only buy the strip in woodgrain, whoever is selling it will want good cash for it (understandable) but i am thinking of just getting some plastic stripping and getting them to cover it and i will cut it to suit, and just hope it dosen't look tacky! another good thing i will mention is
These guys also can do chrome door handles as found in the VS Statemans ect, you just supply them your original normal plastics and the can chrome them!
sorry if this post is also hard to read/understand lol!

Thank you for your comments. I am very happy with how it has turned out.

I bought the dash fascia surround from an automotive performance place south of Adelaide. I was there for another reason and I couldn't leave it there. From there I acquired all the remaining pieces either from eBay or privately. Luckily they all match. There is a woodgrain surround on eBay at the moment that you may interested in, however it appears to black around where the cluster sits - COMMODORE VR-VS FAUX WOODGRAIN DASH SURROUND - eBay, Other Car Parts, Accessories, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 22-Feb-09 21:40:33 AEDST) . The strip set can be difficult to locate and I paid probably too much for mine. They sit on top of the panels and are held in place with screws.

    Good luck

Iv got the woodgrain in the calais but not around the dash speedo.

I think that pic looks a lil too much. i can show you pics of mine and it looks pretty nice actually.

Mine is on the doors, around transmission stick. and strip along the dash.

At the beggining thought it wasn't that nice but now i think it adds a nice touch as the plain interior lacks that little flair.

But as mentioned maybe try some carbon fibre or other styles if woodgrain isnt your thing.

Seraphic, that woodgrain dash surround looks fantastic. I know some VX Calais' came standard with the whole dash surround and entire console with woodgrain finish. Seems like many people hate it and have replaced theirs with a plain silver finish. But I think that would look extremely nice in my Calais. I like it a lot!

Scooter, the series one VX Calais was standard with the woodgrain dash, as with the VT series 2, but the VX Series two Calais came out from factory with the brushed silver, and a grey woodgrain section around the T-bar they called 'slate'. thats why so many are seen with the silver dash.

No, the later statesman consoles have un up turn edge and the facia has a similar edge to match.
The earlier statesman and calais console and facia have a large radius rounded edge.
I have seen the early facia with a later console so maybe you could file the bottom of the facia or the console to blend into one another.

Yeah it is the surround with the woodgrain sunglass holder! I will post some pics up later today when my camera batteries are charged i just pushed the Calais console flush up against the bottom of the stato surround, but yeah the stato has a side leather trim that runs down the edge of the console/surround, and i was worried that it wouldn't look the goods, but i reckon it turned out ok
Edit the only other thing to remember with the stato surround is that you will only be able to use the glovebox woodgrain strip and the fuse cover woodgrain strip that runs along the dash, so if i win the one thats on ebay i might just sell it to someone as a spare ect!

ok here is the pics as promised!
and before anyone mentions it lol yes the center cosole is a different color, but to fit the stato surround you need the console support @ the back as its different from the standard item! I should also mention that you will need to cut out the piece of steel that sits above the radio as the sunglass holder goes back to far and thus the bit of steel it in the road! Its not hard to remove it! I also should mention that the holes in the center console where there from the previous owner who screwd a mobile phone support into it but anyway anyone think i should get the rest of the stato console? or just leave it the way it is and probably just paint the lower console surround the same color with dash paint?

For the extra $50 I woulda already had the lower console in there too lol. Im also keeping my eye on the dash panels with the woodgrain trim. Just need to get past an auto bidder I think (new to ebay).

yeah im still thinking of getting the whole console, will wait and see!
And your best bet with ebay is to wait untill the last few minutes of auction and then start bidding, otherwise you just drive the price up!

    wow great looking pics!
i wanna do the same thing for my acclaim , just the centre consol/glovebox/fusebox covers for now.

got myself a set of calais seats which is a good start I tried to call Just Commodore Spares in adelaide, and they said that woodgrain panels are hard to come by. Is this true?

I would definitely buy the Stato centre console to top it off. Wreckers usually ask $250 for them. Buy it and then even if you do not use it you could sell it for a profit. The ashtray alone can command a small fortune. If you do buy the console make sure that it comes with the ashtray as they can be notoriously difficult to source.

Well it took me the better part of six months to source quality woodgrain panels and trim that was at an affordable price. The strip set comes up on eBay maybe on average once or twice a month to give you some idea.

Your Calais (like mine) is a series one VS so unfortunately we only get the woodgrain in the doors. Which means we have to poach from stato's or series two Calais to get the desired effect. Which is what I hope to begin soon to give the interior a bit of a woody lift :P.

I dont think there were many options or a base model Calais in the VS days but I could be wrong.
