    Default Too much oil bad?

    Hi all,
    bit of a noobish question...
I replaced my oil and filter yesterday and put about 500ml too much oil in... will this affect the car anyway? should I drain some out? Since changing the oil my car idles badly... its idling at about 800rpms or so .. and feels like its about to conk out. It the morning when I started the car.. I heard the oil move ... sounded like a big move (don't know how to explain it), kinda like if you stir oil in a bucket and air gets in and makes like a klump sound , just tried running the car.. but it didnt sound as bad but still around 800rpms but not as much as its going to conk out.

I don't know if its coincidence or not but could someone give a quick reply?

There's prob an easier way im sure of it .... I just pull the plug out and let a bit drain .... but it's pretty gay! cus its hard to get the plug back in when oil is coming out

Yeah take the extra 500ml out, te car is designed to run on a certain amount of oil. Just put a measuring device below your sump plug, remove the plug and when the 500ml is out, screw the plug back in. If your remove to much you should have some spare in the original oil bottle.

And yeah it is annoying getting the oil on your hand when refitting the plug, ut think of it as a nessacary sacrifice to prserv your car. Or just wear a think mechanics or similar glove.

If there is too much oil it will splash around and basically it will come out of the seals and cause leaks.

You have to undo the bolt maybe try undo it a little bit but not all the way out and let it run if its only 500ml that way you can easily bolt it up again.

WHAT OIL DID YOU ISE IT SHOULDNT FEEL THICK??? unless you used a really bad thick oil.

i recon the extra 500mm will be fine.
It is when you have an extra litre or two that you will get oil up in the valves and the exhaust will go smokie.

    Just leave it.

That was how Holden extended out the service intervals on various models over the years. Thay increased the oil capacity with slightly bigger sumps or in most cases just moved the oil full mark on the dipsticks.
