Default VT LSD IRS diff in a VR SS?

Hey guys, just wondering if an IRS limited slip diff would fit in a VR SS, with existing IRS and LSD?

My LSD needs reshimming, and I can pick up the whole diff, axle, springs and brake set up from a VT for cheaper than it would cost to get the reshim. Just wondering if there is a difference?

    Cheers
    Jason

from what i can see they look the same but in saying that the bolt holes could be out. at work at the moment we are getting a IRS LSD rebuild for a customer and its going to cost around $400 give or take. then labor on top of that etc.....

VT series I is a direct bolt up, i have a hydratrack LSD from a VT SI senator.

VT series II and up, they changed the yolk (bit that bolts to the tailshaft) so you'll have to use the yolk from your diff. VTII+ they have a rubber ring between the yolk and tailshalf.

VX series II and up had the triangle flange with the rubber donut. All IRS diffs from VX series I and under should have the round flange which will bolt up directly to any IRS between VR and VX SI.

The VT series II to VZ with 5.7 and supercharged V6 engines use a BW80 series centre which has a larger ring and pinion with different ratios 3.07, 3.46, 3.73 either as LSD or High Performance. VT SII to VY SII NA V6s still use the old BW78 diffs which are the same as the VT SI and older which also changed to the triangle flange from VX SII onwards with the only ratios being 2.9 and 3.08.

The VX SII IRS diffs can easily be modified to fit VR VS VT by replacing the triangle flange with the round flange and the extra length on the pinion can be chopped off. Just had it done to my car yesterday where I used a VX SS SII LSD with 3.46. CV's bolt up without any mods.

Adding on from his post, the earlier diffs size is 7.5in gears. The later VX etc have 8.25in gears.

Ahh thanks heaps for the replies guys.

The diff i'm looking at is from a 5.7l VT series 2, so that would make it a BW80 diff right?

Will that still bolt up properly to my existing VR tailshaft, providing I use the old yoke?
