ok been thinking and was wondering what would be best to do
1. Is it bad to manually change from second to 3rd and overdrive while accelerating with a standard trans?
2.ive been thinking of getting a shift kit....can i still drive the car normally (with out manually changing)? with teh shift kit?
3.where can i get them from and how much $$ and how hard are they to install
4.is a shift kit teh only thing you can get so teh box changes harder/last longer?
sometime i like to drop back to second etc and then manually change to 3rd and i don't want to damage the box:P i dont want it to be a fully manulised auto id still like it to perform like it should, but with the advantage of manually shifting, without screwing teh box
also a corvette servo...how much are they and what are teh advantages?
thanks![]()
depends on what stage shift kit you go. most go a stage 2 shift kit, which makes the shift firmer, and you can still drive it without having to manually change gears.
look up some auto transmission places in your area, give them a call to get some prices, i got priced $350 with a shift kit and service, but thats the only price i got, so not sure if thats cheap or expensive.
ah ok awsone thanks
been thinking and the tune i getting (greenfoam tune...yay:P) has had the line pressure slightly changed to give better shifting...is this bad for the trans?
what does a corvette servo kit do exactly? could i still install this with the line pressure increased in the tune?
its only cause the 1st to second shift is pretty sluggish:P
cheers
your best of getting a stage 2 shift kit, go transgo and get a corvette servo. when gunning it, it'll give u nice firm shifts, but when grandpa'n round u'd never know it was installed. Stage 3 shiftkit is a manualised auto, u have to change gears yourself. overriding the gears by shifting yourself wont harm your box either.. no more than ripping burnouts for extended periods of time
the corvette servo has a larger surface area for the oil to push and engage 2nd gear. u can also get another one up from the corvette, i think its call bullet servo, (something along those lines)
i wouldnt go upping the line pressures without the right parts from a shift kit, more pressure on stock parts isnt the best for it. the cost can range from $300-500 u can always purchase the shiftkit seperately n have it installed, mine cost me $110 from ebay.
oh ok well i think greenfoam only adjusted the pressure a little bit...oh well we will see what happenes:P
thanks
I paid $400 for my stage 2 kit w/corvette servo. Youll feel the firmer shifts when gunning it or driving like a grandpa.
yeah, lots of then on ebay. B&M and Transgo both available, apparently transgo is better. search for 4L60E ..
