Hey guys
I have a Vr v6 auto that has an insane appetite for gearboxes. The first three gearboxes I put down to the previous owner doing a massive dodge with the cooling system so the gearboxes cooked but now I've put in a brand new radiator removed all the a/c bs from in front of it also for better airflow. But now I've just destroyed gearbox number four after about 1500km. I have trouble keeping an auto alive for more than 2000km.
The motor is tweaked a bit with a cam, chip, 40thou overs and just on this last gearbox a 50hp shot of nitrous (hardly used). Admittedly the replacement gearboxes are wrecker jobs but they have no error codes on them.
Can anyone enlighten me as to why I go through gearboxes so fast? Suggestions?
Thanks
get an auto built with strong internals is might cost a bit but not as much as 4 gearboxs will
it is also hard to tell why you go through so manny boxes without knowing what went wrong with them! too much torque etc can destroy them, also if the converter wasnt lined up correctly can damage the pump etc etc etc...
im with dartyvxclubby get a box built that can handle it or go manuel
could be the gearbox settings in the chip
do you have a decent separate cooler for the tranny or are you just using the shitty one that runs threw the radiator?
The gearboxes that I've taken apart and looked inside have had the clutches stripped and the most recent gearbox had the actual gear itself stripped. The Auto is cooled just through a radiator without an extra cooler. I am going to bite the bullet and get a stronger gearbox, can someone suggest some good options?
i recommended you get a large separate cooler aswell and get a deep pan added if the trans dont have one
