Hey guys,
Looking at putting in a muffler kit on my vs. just gonna switch out the existing system after the cat. the bloke at the exhaust shop recommended that i just switch the centre and run a straight 2 1/2 pipe out. so no rear muffler. i wasnt sure about this becuase i thought it was illegal? and yes i know that basically all after market systems are over the sound limits lol. im going for the deepest sound i can get, considering im in a 6. not worried about the drone - ill just flood the tunes.
also any opinions on tail pipes? i was thinking either large oval to fit the cut out in the bumper... or twin droopers... CHEERS!
It is illegal, but I don't have a rear muffler, it's pretty common practice.
and as for tip, I'd go the large oval, but I guess that's just personal opinion
edit: You could always go for a double "Love heart" tip :P (My wife wants this)

i saw those yesterday at autobarn... lets just say they're best left with the ladies lol...
do u get a deep sound? and how loud is it actually? i dont want something that'll get me shining flouro pink to the coppers. hence why i was thinking it might be best to stick with two mufflers neway... thanx mate
I'm quiet happy with it, you can tell it's not an 8 though.
I've had no issue with cops for it and I get pulled over all the time (Red Ps, Wearing a cap, lol)

not sure where the people's cruises are
was wondering if you or anyone else knew the difference in terms of the sound of these two different mufflers? straight through mufflers or baffle mufflers....?
the exhuast guy reckons i should get either two straight through mufflers after the cat...
or...
centre baffled muffler and a straight pipe to the rear...
which system do you think would sound better? chasing as deep as possible noise... cheers
baffles restrict harmonics (keep the car quieter)
straight through dosnt have chambers, so allowing much more air-flow
I would go with the one at the front personally, as I have done... but im pretty sure you need 2 to be legal
Oh and about the cruise: http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...-15th-mar.html

exhaust joint that did my exhaust said that a high flow cat and 2 1/2" exhaust with a mild sports muffler will be just right amount of decibals to pass epa. i got mine done over a year ago and i belive its sounds just right for a v8 and have had no hassels with the cops.
yeah im 99% percent sure you cant drop a muffler from stock... but thanks mate... ill probably go with the two straights just to keep that side of things legal... be a bit louder than the baffled single system i imagine...
i doubt ill catch ya at the cruise as im in victoria so yah... be a nice drive though... have to leave saturday morning... or friday night even lol...
isnt one in victoria do u know?
There's a whole section of JC cruises and non JC cruises in the forums... No idea why I thought you were from Sydney, Sorry :P

thats cool man
probably no idea as to how u would have thought id be in victoria neway... thanx for the info
I think you mean its illegal to have no muffler, the muffler like thing on the stock exhaust near the end of the exhaust is a resonator which quietens the exhaust note even more so, it is not illegal to not have one of those, I think? I just got a 2.5" reback exhuast with no rear resonator installed on my vs commodore its heaps loud enough and it sounds good, it would be better a bit quieter but meh. Cost me $290 fitted plus the exhaust tip which was 20 so $310 all up.
Also ask for a straight through muffler (one without baffles) as they have the best sound plus unrestricted flow, so a bit more power gain.
i just run a 2.5inch from the cat back with one muffler bout halfway it sounds alright drones a bit at about 2000revs though
