Hey guys this is my first thread i have a VR commodore with a 2 1/2 inch system with pacemaker extractors and a high flow cat theres also no resonator
Im looking for ideas to make it a bit louder, trying to decide whether 2 take out the centre muffler for a hotdog or whether that mayb be too loud??
Any ideas and feedback would be great thanks
put the hotdog in and if its too loud fit a straight through at the rear.
but a straight through at the rear would be the exact same as having the straight pipe anyway wouldnt it??

hot dog at the rear and just straight pipe in the middle. if you want louder than that then just have no mufflers at all lol
2 Hotdogs sounds VERY VERY good. a couple of mates have done this on their cars (VN and a VS series Statesman, Both V6's) and its relatively quiet at idle but stand on it and it sounds beaut!
Financial Crisis? What crisis? Fuels cheap and so are parts. I dont see no crisis.
Would you recommend 2 hotdogs over the one? Im ready to pay some money for a decent exhaust on my VS V6 Ute since my dumped exhaust is starting to give some of my passengers the shits
But i like my ute to be loud, a matter infact when i tested it with no exhaust from the cat back it sounded F***** Sweet. Would two hotdogs be more free flowing and sound better then the single centre muffler? And would one or two hotdogs both be legal sound wise?
I am going to get a 2.5inch catback but i cant decide between one or two hotdogs?
Please persuade me
Thanks
Matt
no one or two hotdogs will not be legal.. and its gonna be loud as ****.. but it sounds nice.... not sure how much a hotdog actually muffles the sound so couldnt say if 2 hotdogs will be much quieter than 1.. my mate has 2 hotdogs, extractors and high flow cat on his VS V6 and it sounds mean!.. get your engine tuned to run rich on decel.. it'll gurgle a shit load sounds awsome

Why is it illegal? A Hotdog is classified as a muffler isn't it? And i thought only one muffler was needed if it is under the sound limit?
Anyway i think 2 Hotdogs sounds like the way to go for my V6. But will it do the same as my current setup being the single main muffler dumped before the diff and that is go silent between say 3500-5500rpm?
What causes that?
Thanks
Matt
ok 2 hotdogs is sounding good i might think about doing that i went to an exhaust place and they reckon about $70 to supply and fit a hotdog so might get 2 then
Remove the rear muffler and fit the longest hot dog muffler available, don't forget you will have to fit a chrome tip on the end and it will sound sh#@ HOT![]()
yeh ive already got rid of the rear muffler
is there different length hotdogs? and if there is whats the difference?
thanks
There are different lengths so it best to measure what you can fit under your car comfortably and buy that one, the longer the better as you will get a deeper note
No No No leave the center muffler on so long as its a good quality sports muffler
oh well at the moment i have the centre muffler and so i was thinkig take that out and put a hotdog in place of that and 1 at the back where the resonator usually is??
i thought thats what everyone ment![]()
just dump it at the diff, much louder

Do you lose back pressure when you only have hotdogs and no proper middle muffler?
Mine currently is dumped at the diff after the main centre muffler and the drone is starting to annoy a few of my passengers. I was hoping someone could explain why my current setup sounds alright untill 3500-5500rpm where it pretty much goes silent and also i would like it a little bit louder so i was thinking a 2.5inch cat-back with 1 or 2 hotdogs?
Any Ideas?
Matt
i'm not sure if a hotdog is really classified as a muffler as it doesnt do much muffling lol.. the reason why it'll be illegal is because with one or two hotdogs its still gonna be louder than the legal limit.. i dont know what the legal limit is but i know that it's gonna be louder than it lol..
hmm.. with the exhaust going silent do you lose power at all at that rpm? coz i'm thinking the calalytic converter could have broken inside and when you get to that rpm the pressure of the exhaust is pushing the ceramic core up agains the outlet pipe and is blocking it.. i say this because it happened to my mate... round 3500 rpm the exhaust went almost completely silent..
if its not that then its just the mufflers that you have.. are designed the cancel out that certain frequency in that rpm range
Damn now i don't know what to do for my exhaustNah when she hits 3500+rpm she flys like a shower of shi* and the engine noise and induction sounds awesome. And this is only a V6 lol.
So what do you recommend overall for a exhaust system that is loud and deepish and fairly close to the legal limit?
Thanks Heaps
Matt
well my exhaust is pretty decent n i have a few mates with vs commodores with pacemaker extractors high flow cat and 2 1/2 inch system n yeh sounds sick but i just want mine even louder lol. I think one of my mates got it all done at the same time and was bout $1200 i think
lol im not saying you shouldnt get two hotdogs... just telling you it wont be legal... in my opinion it'll sound nice with 2 hotdogs.. it might drone slightly though... my exhaust set up is hurricane headers, standard cat and 2.5" catback with straight through rear muffler only.. sounds better than any VR ive ever heard i reckon =D lol... loud as shit when you put your foot down but i can drive it quietly too
Why would you want your V6 to sound that loud???
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
Ah k, gotcha so your saying that two hotdogs wont muffle anywhere near as much as your straight through rear muffler? All i currently have is the centre muffler and well would like a little bit more noise
So you saying next step is getting a small muffler and a hotdog pretty much?
Thanks again M8
Matt
do u have extractors? high flow cat? 2 1/2 inch system?
