    Default Front Oil Seal

Leaking a lot of oil and after taking it to the local mechanic who couldn't identify where the leak was coming from suggested I clean it with a Gurnie and come back. Leak is getting worse and looks to me like it's coming from the front Oil Seal. I'm just curious how big a job it is to replace it and what should I pay if taking it to a mechanic,

    regards David

it should be a max of two hours. before you take it to a mechanic open bonnet ,run engine & check harmonic balancer is running straight. if its buggered you could be up for extra for a new one

Check the "how-to" section as I think there is one there for changing the CAS....the seal is easily changed once the HB is off. May pay to change the CAS whilst you are there just for luck.

yeah it is easy enough to do, the seal costs about 15-20 bucks. They seem to last longer if you wipe grease on the seal lips before fitting also.

Well, i fitted one from repco the first time i changed my CAS and about 6 weeks later the seal had shat itself. I replaced it again and someone suggested filling the lips with bearing grease to keep it lubed until the oil gets to it. Whatever the reason it worked well and the seal is still in tact 12 months later ... and the grease was still there last time i checked.
