Ok, when I'm in traffic, idleing and just moving slowly or just waiting, my temperature gauge in my VS S-Pack creeps up to half and almost 3/4's sometimes, but then when I drive off, it just goes back down to under a 1/4 temperature
what could be causing this?
Thermostat?
Coolant?
Fan's not working?
Any suggestions?
Most likely your fans aren't working, if it was your thermostat the temp would stay up.
The forward motion is pushing air through your radiator.

Check and see if the thermo fans are coming on if not check the thermostat
That actually sounds pretty normal (the gauges vary some). If the temp. stays down with the A/C on (= cooling fan on regardless of eng. temp. at low speed) I'd say definitely normal.
hey guys, i have a 97 vs ute sII(3800) s'pac
i have a similar problem...
the low stage thermo fan wont turn on automatically.
i have correct coolant, brand new genuine thermostat, temp senser low fan relay switch
there are no air pockets or leaks in the cooling system...
i have no idea what the problem could be other than something to do with the computer.
Hama, nothing to worry about. It's normal.
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!
Don't be stupid. Power isn't measured by the size of your tacho
what you descrided says pretty normal outside temperature will also have an effect on idling temperature ,if its cooling while you are moving and keeps around the quarter mark your thermostat sounds ok ,your thermos should cut in just above the halfway mark if you stick your hand out the window just below the mirror you will feel the hot air coming out while they are on,
Do you have a five pin relay in the cooling fan circuit that requires it? The low speed fan is operated by the BCM but the PCM will turn on both fan windings if the relay is correct i.e. hasn't been subbed at some point.

Checking for power to and an earth from the low speed fan winding (with the A/C 'on' so the fan circuit is switched on), and that the low speed winding is not open circuit, might be a good place to start.
sorry mate but i totally disagree.
my vs temp used to sit between the first bar and second bar on the temperature scale. (10 bars on the scale)
since i got a transmission service the 'low fan' hasnt been turning on.
and if the car is sitting idle and heating up that much...the cooling system sounds very weak - how would the car stay cool if its towing a load going up a hill with the air con running on a hot day?
"low fan" - should kick in on the second bar, 'high/eng fan' should turn on at around the 5th bar (half way up the scale or when air con is running) and cool it down to about the 3rd where the low fan takes over again.
yer its normal i have new everything senders huge radiator thermostat its normal the guages are very sensitive they move heaps if u let it sit idling and it stays around 3/4 or jsut over its fine if it hit right up the top turn ur car off lol
but fans should come on just above 3/4
failing this there is a how to on wiring a switch in so if u see it get hot u jsut flick the sw or u cna jsut turn ac on
this is so wierd...my vs is a 97 model and in the 4 years ive owned it ive never had the temp up around 3/4, also...my mate has a reconditioned vr motor, and his temp never goes over the 2nd bar (on a 10 bar temp scale) the same as mine...yet everyone else's seems to be going up higher as 'normal'...
the low stage of my thermo fan isnt working atm tho, which explains why my temperature is going up.
low speed fan should switch on at half way on the gauge. that should bring the temp back down to normal before the fan turns off. High speed fan turns on around 3/4 scale, this should only come on on very hot days in traffic or when towing something heavy up a big hill.
Sounds like your low speed fan isn't working properly, or your gauge is a very 'hot' one. check your radiator is holding pressure too.
hey would having a faulty fan be the reason as to why the centre console area inside the cabin, just above the gearbox, is heating up quite a bit in heavy traffic?
na don't think so. best way to check if your fan is working is to open the bonnet and have a look. The fan is probably blowing hot air down the tunnel which is heating up the console , not to mention exhaust heat.
