Basically, is this possible ? my box has done 241 000 k's and it has started slipping and doing funny things. I want to rebuild it myself if its possible. Buy a rebuild kit and maybe a book and set to work ...
What do you think ? Would it need a full rebuild or just clutches and band ?
opinions welcome, specially if you have tried it, and failed or succeded. Thanks![]()
iv read up a fair bit about this..
and the conclusion i was given.. is unless i have alot of experience with autos.. dont bother
its a very complicated trans apparently
thus the reason im going second hand =D
main prob is slipping, also sometimes holds gear, sometimes changes up too soon and kinda jumps into gear. isn't a full auto service on these just a filter and fluid ? but hey, i have a spare bottle of fluid here ... maybe worth throwing it in anyway.
Look on YouTube - there are quite a few instructional clips on there about doing exactly what you propose and they are done by people who know what they're talking about. Plus a search on Googleand also check the 'similar threads' at the bottom of this page. I've always wanted to do a full rebuild but I'm too damn conservative in my old age.
Good Luck.
its possible, but you will need to make a few special tools up, the best advice has allready been given by Hako :P research everything first my friend.
i check out some of the clips on Utube of people working on these boxes. They make it look so easy.. soo tempting
The ideal way would be to get a secondhand transmission that you could take your time over pulling it apart properly. There is nothing worse than have time limits. Would also be great to have a proper workbench and a concrete floor.
well , i have a bench and concrete floor so i'm half way there right ?
Whats do i use the concrete floor for ?
LOL, was thinking the same myself.
concrete floor and a large plastic sheet mate, so you can lay all your parts out :P
Maybe like wagonwheel says maybe its better to get a trans service to see if that will fix the problems and if not move to the next step. Seems highly daunting to open up your trans and tinker with it, would rather let someone who know what they were doing screw with it could be up for much more money if the whole point of doing it is to save money
