Didn't want to thread dig because it annoys people, but I found this and have the same problem, all the posts I have found, don't really have much in them, and theres not really a solution either that I've found. Last time I checked I had no error codes, and It's been doing it for ages, but since I rarely give her a kick in the guts It never bothers me but I'd still like to to be running all sweet. When I had the shift kit put in, the guy said it looks like its all good inside.
-Would it be a solonoid?
-Would one out a V6 box fit?
Cheers.
(If its been covered before and I missed the thread in the search please link it for me?)
Anyone? Still can't really find an answer, just more posts about the symptoms but to conclusion to what the problem was.
Maybe it's caused by a sticky solenoid that sometimes gets jammed open/closed. I know valve bodies can get clogged with crap if the filter is blocked or improperly installed.
The 4L60E in the V8 is similar but not exactly the same as the V6....I think the converter, oil pan size (deep pan) and a clutch pack are different ...but don't quote me. I'd imagine the solenoids are identical though I wouldn't use secondhand ones as the wiring can fail.
I'll do a search as well and see what comes up.
Thanks mate, tried doing the error code check again today, just clunks under the bonnet so I think something might be up there, car hasnt really been the same since the alarm got put in (that has also died, haven't got around to getting it fixed under warranty yet)
I was maybe thinking clutch pack might be rooted, it seems to be able to hold gear around 5000rpm fine held in gears when I accelerate slowly, just when I give it a kick in the guts, but then again that could be sticky solonoid as you said.
Just found this on the impala site...seems to point to the throttle position sensor!:
2. 1-2 shift does not happen at WOT until you let off the gas: Best case: try replacing the TPS. Middle case: leak in the 2nd gear apply circuit (servo assembly or 1-2 accumulator). Doublecheck by using the pressure gauge and watch for a big drop when the PCM commands 2nd gear. Worst case: poor line pressure rise (see below).
3. 1-2 Shift shudder at WOT; delayed or abnormal 1-2 shift; There's a problem ONLY on the 1-2 shift: 1-2 accumulator piston cracked or stuck cocked in the bore. Check the yellow spring inside the accum housing for breakage. Also, if the accumulator housing walls are scored, the housing must be replaced. Easy fix in the pan.
4. 1-2 shift is delayed and harsh, may not shift into OD: Check TPS for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If not, replace.
5. Trans does not upshift out of first, speedometer reads zero at all times: VSS failure. Easy fix on rear of transmission, but xmember must come out to access VSS.
Thanks heaps for that mate!
I'm going to have a dig around about the TPS now
Are V6 & V8 Parts The Same??
Dr. Bob says V6 and V8 are the same..might take a quick trip to u-pull-it and grab 1 or 2, see how things go.
That's my problem, but on n off. Usually on first startup untill warmed up, but then again when it gets too hot. Is it hard to replace the TPS? How much are they.4. 1-2 shift is delayed and harsh, may not shift into OD: Check TPS for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If not, replace.
if your intrested i have sum tested solinoids from a vr v6 box that work fine. *batters eyes lids*
