Default Lifter Noise of passenger bank

Hey guys. Just bought a VS Berlina, 161,000kms on gas $1500, with a blown head gasket. An absolute gem every thing is in great condition.

So i did the norm and pulled the engine down, decked the heads, re seated the valves bought a VRS kit. All new gaskets.

Started the car and let idle, check the vitals all is good BUT i have a passenger side top end knock. I presume it is a lifter. So i removed the rocker cover and the rockers and there was not much oil on the top end; cleaned all the galleries and pushrods re assembled and still have the knock. The motor had not run for 2 months.

Has anyine had the problem before

Have you checked that it's not an exhaust manifold gasket leak or a crack in the cast iron manifold? Not much oil on the top end kind of indicates low or no oil feed to the lifters on that bank...maybe the oil pickup filter in the sump is blocked.

Even though the noise is only audible on the passenger bank have you checked the oil supply to the rockers on the drivers side aswell? What grade of oil are you running and I assume when you reinstalled the pushrods the oil way through them was thoroughly cleaned?
