Default Changing VS power steering pump - how to fit filter in return line?

    Hi Guys,

My wife has a VS commodore and the power steering pump is noisy so I am about to replace it. I have bought a new AC Delco pump, and it has a 24 month warranty, however it says "warranty not valid unless a filter is fitted to the return line"

The VS doesn't have a filter inline with the power steering pump at the moment.

What sort of filter do I need? Where do I buy one? Does having a filter inline make the steeering heavier? Are there any disadvantages to fitting one? Should I worry about it, or just refit the new pump and not worry about a filter?

Any advice about this filter would be great.

    Thanks,
    John.

Thats a new one on me.
I did my pump about 5-6yrs ago with a genuine Holden one and don't remember anything about fitting a filter for the warranty.
If you bought it from a Holden dealer then go back and ask them, after all thats who you will return it to if it fails.
Good luck finding one and when you do post some pics.

There are in-line filters that you can buy for power steering (they look a little similar to a fuel filter). Bit difficult to find a location. One was fitted for me when I had the rack replaced in my VS Calais.

Hi mate, Repco sell them, they are an inline unit about 3cm long and 1.5cm round, you just cut in the low pressure return line and feed it on both ends, add some clamps if needed. I did this on mine, an 8, with no probs. I think they cost about $25-30.
