VP to VR changeover

Can someone tell me if its possible to do a straight swap from me VP V6 to a VR V6, ie engine mounts same, exhaust and wiring.
My vp needs a rebuild but seen a VR engine for sale.

yip should drop straight in and wire straight up minus the cam sensor but its not needed to run on the VP ecu .auto or manual wont matter either will want to get a vr manual memcal or get someone to burn a vr tune onto your memcal.

should drop straight in i put a vn series 2 into my vr without getting a tune. The check engine light was on for a while but a mechanic had a look for me and took him about 15 minutes to fix i don't know what he did though

Thanks for that. I am electronic savvy and make alot of circuits from schematics. I do have a whole vn/vp ecu here that is memcaled. How would i go about A] getting a schematic to make a burner and b] the software for the vr programming and the data.

one more thing. are the VR ecu and VP ecu the same along with the same question about the auto box.

if your are auto now leave the VP auto in there or go manual stay away from the vr auto as it will just cause more headaches and wiring.as for burners you are better off just buying a willem programmer off the net cheap as chips and work great you can get them allready made or as a kitset.even allready assembled they are cheap.and you need an eprom eraser or some electronically erasable chips ie 29C256 or 27sf256.

I have a VR engine lined up to get now to do a change over. I plan as you say to keep the t700 i have as its got the modified transfer shaft because of the conversion. I would like to change the ECU and wiring though on the car. Is it possible to use a VR loom and ecu with a t700 vp auto box? how would that work for the lockup?

FYI the reason i want to change the ecu and loom is the loom i got with the transfer is totally patched up and bare cables, plus the motor runs crappy after engine turned off and back on, ive tried changing everything sensor wise. So must be the ecu or loom. Anyway.

you could use vr manual loom and ecu the loom will be the same as what you have now with maybe the odd difference in wiring on the plugs by the battery or you could go camira loom and do a few mods to it too suit.good thing with the vr ecu is you can use the faster 8192 aldl for logging and tuning.see willem programmer and eprom eraser on ebay right now $45 eprom eraser about the same price.

Would i be able to use a Vr auto loom on a manual ecu and obviously not hook up the auto wiring. Also with the Ecu can i use a vr auto v6 or a v8 manual ecu and re burn the eprom to a v6 manual ( i purchased the william dual power)....unsure and though i would ask, v6 manual looms and ecu are hard to find.

dont quote me on it but i think vr auto looms have different plugs for the ecu.but i havnt messed round with vr auto stuff so i couldnt say for sure.

What about a V8 manual ecu, can i reprogram the eprom to a v6 manual?

not really as the limp home mode resistor packs and cylinder select are set for V8.but your 808 ecu memcal will plug into the vr V8 manual ecu all good anyway.ide get a bigger eprom as well to put in the stock memcal a 27C256 or 29C256 then you can run the vr bins still.or swap the chip out of the v8 memcal into the v6 memcal .brandnew 27C256's for sale on ebay.com.au right now $3.40 each with sockets cheap as.

Are you saying i can use a 808 memcal with a vr manual ecu and reprogam to a vr manual?

Also is a VS ecu the same, they are a little easier to get the manual ecy for that.

yes you can use the 808 memcal in the vr manual ecu and in the vs v8 manual ecu you can run the stock memcal with the stock tune as well.to run the vr or vs code you need a bigger eprom in there though but its easy to put a new one in.search eprom on ebay you will find the guy i just bought 5 eproms off with sockets for $3.40.
