G;day all, living in Qld has warped the passenger side air bag cover on my VS2 statey caprice.
I am a bit reluctant to go poking it with screwdrivers to remove it.
How can i get the cover off, without activating the air bag?
Where can i source a replacement cover?
Also, the vent section in the centre of the dash has broken & fallen inside the dash [slightly]. I have to point the vents upwards to keep it in place, not good if the air con actually worked. lol
How do i remove the fascia, so i can glue the vent section back in?
Cheers, Col.
Just take out the fuse for the air bag and it will be deactivated not sure how to pull it out though!
I don't think you can replace just the cover, only the whole airbag assembly.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
The VR I pulled the dash out of the other week had the air bag pad bent up from heat. It snapped when I looked under it. But from memory the airbag was not part of the dash pad. when I took the dash pad out the air bag bits stayed in place.

My mate had a VS Calais, very nice car, but since ploughing into a VE through his own stupidity; ie. getting sideways and hitting an oil spill on the road LOL, it was written off. Shame, beautiful car
but anyway, he had exact same problem with his passenger side bag cover curling up due to the sun. If i remember correctly, he was quoted a 4 figure number to replace the cover and airbag...of course he never got it replaced.
But im sure you could get the cover replaced?? Seems silly of holden if you cant.. =\ hmm

i can sell u the vr stato dash with the lift up compartment instead of air bag dashes..... much more sort after. And to the untrained eye un noticable,................
Damn....i was hoping i could simply replace the cover.
Thanks for the offer Poverty, but i would like to keep the airbags in place.
I recently put a stato dash in my ute and changed the airbag cover for a dash glove box with lift up lid as mentioned in a previous post.
By memory there is a large steel bracket self tap screwed (multiple) and bolted under the cover itself, which is then held onto the dash panel by 3 threaded bolts. The 3 bolts are retained in position on the bracket and only the nuts have to be removed. These are located to the front of the dash closest to the windscreen. Don't remove the self tapped scews or 4 recessed nuts that hold the plate to the pad.
There is also two web straps on the lower edge held in by brackets that bolt to ???
There may also be 2 self taped screws into the plastic of the pad on the lower edge corners near the web straps that will have to be removed before trying to lift the pad.
In giving you this infromation whilst I believe the the pad is seperate to the airbag itself (no extra bolt holes for anything to be bolted to it), I would think the dash or airbag would have to be removed to give access to the bolts/screws to remove it.
Only other suggestion is to remove the glove box in your car and see if you can spot the 3 retaining nuts near the windscreen edge and two self tap screws on the lower edge from there. You never know your luck, holden may have designed it to be that easy.
If you can spot the 3 nuts/2 screws and undo them you should be able to pry the pad up (edge under the windscreen might have a little glue on it), to reveal the bolts retaining the web straps. Straps should have about 50 to 100mm freeplay.
As I said, this is by memory and I would recommend if you try removing the pad, you make sure the airbag is deactivated so it won't deploy. I don't know how to do that part.
Let us know how you get on if you try to remove it.
Thanks for the input coights VS.
I was hoping to source a replacement cover, then have a look at what holds it in place.
Holden tell me the part is NLA. Typical!
Anybody know how to remove the dsah fascia, so i can fix the vents?
Cheers, Col.
