i went around the corner today and then gave it a boot full. it droped back a gear, started to take off then slipped into neutral and reved to 5grand before going back into gear.it all happened with in a couple of seconds. what do you think is the problem? i checked the auto fluid when i got home and its on the full mark.
Sounds like your forward clutch is starting to crap itself, not a good sign aye. This happened to my first car, happened occasionally and then started to happen more and more frequently. Eventually it just packed it in and slipped so much that it just wouldnt go any more. From what I have heard this warrants a full gearbox rebuild, if I were you I would definately go and get it checked by a transmission specialist.
You are most likely up for a new transmission. I have only just had a reconditioned one installed in mine. I hope you have some money saved up because it is not cheap.
how much did you pay for it? when i put it into gear like drive or reverse it does take a coupe of seconds to in gage. but no other problems changing betweeen gears.
I'd recheck the fluid level and also the colour of the fluid before I committed to a new trans. The delay when engaging D or R is normal...unless the delay is 2 seconds or more. Also your trans may need a service unless it's been done in the last 12 months.
That is actually normal and is mentioned in the owners handbook.
As for the cost, a reconditioned transmission plus labour was $1950 which included a 12 month warranty. If you shop around you may find it a bit cheaper but I really couldn't be bothered. You could also go to a wreckers and get one from there, but you run the risk of purchasing a dog of a unit.
Whatever you do, get it looked at first. I may just need a service.
had an oil and filtter change last month.
Might be time then to add one of the "stop trans slip" products on the market to delay the time when it fails completely. With the price of secondhand cars nowdays it's sometimes cheaper to buy another car than reco the box.
i may have to just drive a bit slower instead of giving it a boot full just ease on the petal.
I would be babying the transmission as much as possible if you want to delay it dying on you. The more you put it under stress the quicker it will give up the ghost.
I just lost a high clutch on my statesman. $2460 for a full rebuild. but im getting billet servos and a bigger stall.
if you just had a service and its doing it, bad luck![]()
my whole car only owes me a third of that. i'm going to get a second hand one and put that in and see how it goes.
Mybe take it to a gearbox place and ask for a quote and get them to test-drive.
Mate was going to a rebuild then went to a place and the bloke took it for a drive and it ended up to be a solinode (spelling). Cheaper that a rebuild.
Don`t remember what was wrong with it.
Just a thought.
