i've got a 1996 vs acclaim ecotec daily driver.
its on dual fuel (apparently anyway)
when i bought it, i got it off an old bloke, who had it since new, has every single receipt documented in a book since new so the car is in tip top shape.
my problem is, when i bought it, i never bothered to drive it on petrol, cos it drives unbeleivably well on gas, being factory fitted dual fuel everything has been done properly for it to run on gas.
heres the big problem that im stumped on..
decided to try and run it on fuel for the first time the other day to clean out the pump, so as i flicked it over, i lost all power, now i know with dual fuel cars it takes a good 10seconds or so for the fuel to kick in.
but when i flicked it over, every single warning light came up on the dash, ABS light, Airbag light, High temperature light, Oil Light, pretty much anything you can think of that is a warning light , came on.
not only that, the car lost all engine power, there was no fuel pump noise or anything, i basically had to put it in nuetral turn the car off flick it over to gas, and restart it while rolling at like 80kms cos i had a car behind me.
im really stumped on this one, if it was a fuel pump all the lights wouldnt come on the dash ec.. and i would of atleast heard it priming, and it wasn't.
fuses are fine, soon as i restared it on gas and put in drive, all the warning lights were gone!
anyone got a idea at all?
BTW - for the funny ones that want to crack some jokes, YES there is petrol in the tank, i put some in afew days ago to clean the pump when i flicked it over!
Ok basically your pumps sounds like its farked... about $110 to replace...
It's also recommened you run your car on petrol every 10km to the 100Km keeps the injectors clean
it sounds like you flicked it to petrol, and your car stalled
silly question - does it have any petrol in it?
pump could very well be dead - put it into petrol mode and flick the key onto ignition only and see if you can hear priming.
if you can't, kick the sh*t out of the petrol tank where the pump sits, and try again
if you get no priming, but you get voltage @ the pump, then replace the pump.
I'd ask the old bloke I bought it from - if he was meticulous and cared for his car he would have had petrol in the tank or somehow would have taken that into account....
sounds like the pump, common thing with gas cars that are never run on petty.
I used to run mine for about 20 - 50 kms a week on fuel, all at once though.
LOL someone still managed to ask if u had fuel in the tank.
If the car runs quiet then yeh maybe the car did stall then? it normally does stall when flicking over n if ur running in a straight line at 80ks its hard to tell it stalled besides the dash warning lights showing up. Used to happen a lot to me in my old VP when the CAS was broke, its a lot more noticable if ur trying to brake or turn a corner with a big commodore n no power steering.
Anyway could have been a busted pump and therefore car stalled and lit up the dash, as said its common and if its that id say get a relay put in for the fuel pump, costs about $50 fitted.
VR through to VX wrecking in WA, must get rid of these!
