vr berlina bcm?????

Hey folks,

just wondering my brothers car is a vr berlina -- a while ago he was having problems with the door locks sometimes working with the key remote and sometimes not. at first we thought it was a dodgy key as his key was in a few pieces so he said he went to a locksmith god knows why.

he said the locksmith got the code from his vin number and coded the key and remote.

currently the key works the ignition
when u press the button the indicator lights flash but dont know if it actually immobilises the car as u can still start with the key after doing this is this normal????????


i managed to find the BCM under the steering column - is this a likely cause of fault went to holden as i was under the assumption the key was coded wrong or not coded - they reckon if it works the car the key and remote is fine they said check the BCM out .........

any ideas if this is where i should check - and its all 4 door locks now not jus and intermittant 1 or 2 - checked the fuses under the steering column they are all fine

If the key makes the lights flash etc, then the key is fine and coded correctly.

Do all doors open when you use the key in the passengers door? if not, which ones?

The BCM should control the doors, but there is more likely something else going on

When you lock the car with the remote, does the "security" light start flashing?

Oh and the key will start the car even after the immobiliser is armed.
Notice the small bump on the keyhead, and the metal prongs around the ignition barrel? These communicate and disable the immobiliser.

ah ok - umm i did actually notice the doors were weird but i dont have much to go on as my vp is sooooo custom now nothing is standard lol

when u turn the key only the drivers goes up but theres no - umm like actuator noise normally u hear a click or something and the passengers one should pop up i think but no......

just the drivers goes up with key...

when i pull any of the other door locks up i dont hear any noise there either and they dont affect any of the other doors

Could be the TDM (Theft Deterrent Module) at fault maybe.

hmm ok - pretend im dumb lol - which i am for vr / vs lol - i thought the BCM controlled all doors and windows and stuff - didnt think they had a TDM like vp's do (maybe they do lol)

any ideas on location - and please dont say same as VP lol under the dash in the centre

if i dont have any luck ill just put 12v to the door actuators on the weekend and test them - then guess ill be tracing wires
