I have a v6 Supercharged statesman 1997, when i accelerate it pops, and backfires and surges and sometimes the whole bottom of the car like clunks and joults, as if somethings lose. the car has recently been driven over a concrete island thing, and broke the catalyic convertor but that wouldent be the reason would it?? can it be a faulty fuel pump, what can i try??
can anyone please help it will be appreciated!!
Thankyou
a brocken cat could be blocking the exhaust flow, you'll have to have a lok and check just how damaged it is.. if it's completely smashed in or torn open could cause an issue.. but i'm running a straight through cat and its been smashed to bits and i've never had any back fires...
If the car's surging, i'd try checking your leads, spark plugs(possibly relace if old) and possibly check your injectors too, by unclipping and pulling off each injector lead one by one to see if the idle makes a difference, if theres 0 change wen u take a lead of, you'll knw that the injector is eaither stuffed, or cloged.. also it could possibly be the module the coils are on orrrr maybe a vacum leak...i'd start with all the above![]()
forgot to ask..is the car on gas??
if you have smashed the cat the yes it will as it will block the exhaust as the big bits block the exhaust, but have a look and see
ok i will have a look at the cat and its running 98 bp premium not gas![]()
