You can get the senator in manual, thats a start.

Other people will have engine numbers to be able to know for sure, but if you get a manual, 6 speed = 5.7L, 5 speed = 5L.

Before buying a HSV, you should always check the VIN on HSVs computer. That will also tell you what motor it 'should' have.

Theres a link to check it online. I don't have it on me, but i have posted it in other HSV threads, so maybe search 'HSV' posted by me, and see what comes up.

VS Senator's don't come in 5.7 V8's...they came in on the VT Series 2 (1999) as the 3rd Generation V8
    1997 VS II - S

Were talking about the Holden Stroker motor. Which is avaliable on VR and VS HSVs . NOT the LS1 5.7....

I have a 5.7 Senator, they are great IMO, different to the newer chevs....Depends on what you like/want I guess?
    Good:

    - Sound, deep burple, dont have too ring it out to hear her
    - Tq, loads of low down grunt on tap instantly
    - Looks, I personally love VS senators, mine is silver
    - Small amount of collect ability in a low km original car
    - Awesome interior,
    - Great rims
    - Not too many around unlike later HSV
    - Its not a chev motor

    Not so good:
    - Fuel around town
    - Body creaks/groans and flexs
    - People want to steal it
    - Getting on in years

Follow this link to HSV Verification:

    https://reports.hsv.com.au/authenticate/

It may tell u its not a exact match, not sure why it does, I followed it up with a call to HSV with Eng and Build nos and all checked out ok

I did have all the code break downs when I brought mine......will have a look to see if I can find them, but from memory the vin should have LVL in the code, some one here will know all the breakdowns but one L is for berlina as this was the donor vehicle in my case and the other L is for 215i..

Nope, 215s are 5.7L Strokers. Known as HOLDEN strokers tho, not the 'chev' ones
Like i said, if you have a 6 speed senator, its a 5.7. Not sure how much power difference there is, guy i know had one and it was slower than my stock VP.
