    Default VS Speed Alert backlight

    VS Speed Alert backlight:

the speed alert works fine, the backlight is just out.

is this just a globe that can be replaced or possibly a wire loose?

    thanks guys.

probably the globe, i think they are always on as they are not hooked up to the light switch so they are fairly common to blow.

Yep it is a globe and they cost about $17.00 from GMH. Go to a wrecker and see if you can scrounge one there. The globes inside the power antenna switches are exactly the same (and air con, rear wiper in earlier models).

how hard is it to change one of these globes?
are they mounted in the power clip or inserted to the speed alert itself?
Sort of new to me, fiddling behind the upper dash, don't want to break anything lol.

Get the small globe condom from the speed shop, you can get the 4 main colours, green, red, blue and yellow. Also the make them for T4 neo wedge and T10's (dash light size).

do you have to get one of these globes from a wrecker or a holden dealer?

or can you buy a specific globe that will fit from a car specialist shop such as "Repco"?

Repco should have one, thats where i got mine
To replace just take of the plastic dash surround and unplug and take out the speed alert.
You might need long nose pliers to get the globe out,ive put a post on here somewhere with a pic attached if you feel like searching.
I cant quite remember but i think the globe was about $4.00.

i noticed my backlight started blinking ion and off so the globe was on its way out. So anyway i ripped it out and squeezed a bright blue LED in there with a resistor and it looks smick! it lights up the screen and buttons blue. Id say the blue sleeve over a 12v globe wouldn't have as much effect as the LED

Also while i was at it i replaced the orange/amber overspeed indicator LED with a blue LED

Looks awesome and i recommend you doing it. If need pics just PM or reply

    woops sorry for lateness
here are a couple of pics... remembering that the overspeed indicator led is easier to replace. For the backlight i took out the 12v globe and replaced it with and LED with a resistor. A lot harder to do but looks good!
Also, since i got the car something had been up with the KMH not lighting up on the screen (2nd pic), so i got a 2nd hand speedalert for 15 bucks and did the same thing with the LEDs

hi, i used 3mm LEDs for both. i got mine bulk off ebay, but you can go to jaycar and ask the dudes down there u want a blue one. Resistor is a 47k ohm
Unless you want to try repco for a blue sleeve to slip over the 12 globe as it already has a green sleeve over it. Would make it much easier to get it blue. cheers
