Default Vr vs boot strut difference

Right the problem is I`ve got my missus car that has an after market sploiler
the struts are clapped and I need another set, there are two types the non spoiler and spoiler type the spoiler type is for factory fitted spoilers, so my question really is ..whats the difference, mounting points, more weight from the spoiler = needing bigger struts or what?, the ads on ebay are vauge at best...help please.

Zuicider knows what the is talking about - the boot and spoiler need a heavier strut and sellers usually ask if the boot has a spoiler.

To look at there is no physical difference between standard struts and struts to suit a spoiler and they both fit the same way. The struts to suit the boot with a spoiler just have a higher compressive pressure to compensate for the added weight of the spoiler.

    Heres the tech data -

So struts are rated by the amount of energy in Newtons they can push.

Standard VR/VS boot strut = 460 Newton pressure
    VR/VS Stato/Commo + Wings/Spoilers = 530-550 Newton pressure

The geniune units are made by Lift-o-Mat, and the newton rating is printed on the struts at the bottom of the blurb. i.e. 460N will be printed in larger letters than the rest.

If the strut is a lower newton than required, it wont push up the extra weight.

The strut re-gas mobs will make them whatever pressure you want, will cost around 66 for the pair.

Thats good tech data haloeight, I've always wondered how you could tell how much force struts have, now I know.

Can we get this thread made a sticky? That info isn't easy to find!

I'll also add that you need to install the struts in a way so that the seal at the top of the piston shaft is facing down, as they are lubricated by oil inside the body of the strut. If you install them the other eway, the seal will dry out, causing the gas to escape and stuffing up the strut.

Finally, if you get a re-gas on the struts and ask the regasser to do them, say 15-20 newtons higher than spec, you should get the boot to automatically pop up when you press the release.

I'll have a photo of the strut assembly when I can get it off my phone.

I tried doing this to my VN using VR VS struts but mounted differently.....But when the boot opened it opened with so much force the boot nearly ending up on the bonnet.....

Tried with just one strut but boot opened crooked

Could work but would need to get custom struts made up with less power

Having said that, now that I have replaced the oem VN springs it still opens with quite abit of force..

my old clubsport hasd the wing replaced by an s pac boot lip

the lower weight of the small lip made my boot open so easy.

id pull the lever and it would open right up all on its on...was awesome!!

yep sure did, hence why I gave up and got hold of the original boot springs...........From what I understand where I located it, is the same spot as the VN Group A's but obviously there boot lid is a lot heavier because of the large spoiler...
