Hey.. curious i have a VR and just got a 2 1/2" cat back for free off another VR... it only has one muffler... will puting it on my car make it much louder? and is there anyway cheap ways to make it louder? without too much engine work and screwing up fuel consupmtion too much... im only 2nd apprentice :P... like sure get a hi-flo cat and paceys and that but im looken for pritty much free ways lol
Make it louder? the cat back will be a bit louder than stock, should sound alright. But if you want EXTREME loudness, either remove the whole section from after your cat (will sound like a tug boat but attracts all the babes plus gets you high cause the fumes come into the cabin) or dump it at the diff. Both are illegal, but will make it very very loud.
What do ya rekon about removing that muffler so thers no muffler at all... just 2 1/2" from cat, to the rear?(want some sugest befor i do any grinding lol)... what do you think about canons? i know YESSSS we all think they are gay as hell but do they do anything? i never looked into em
"cheers"
ehh the quote didn't work....
what do you rekon about removing that muffler? so there's no muffler at all just from cat threw 2 1/2" and another thing... i know they are GAY as all hell but what do you rekon about canons i have never looked into em... do they make any louder or what or they just crap? or dose it depend on what kind?
"cheers"
OK, note the sarcasm in my last post..it is illegal to remove the exhaust in such a way, even at the diff is illegal. Niether sound very good on a stock 3.8 V6, so...
In terms of a cannon, read around, you will quickly determine that they only belong on pirate ships and not commodores. I would not recommend it, heard the results and its HORRIBLE. Just save up and do it properly, get the satisfaction![]()
carbon monoxides good for you :P
another thing.. anyone know anything about removing the bellmouth? im not interested in power more interested in loudness... not like im gena be racing :P
BUT if you know or think its gena increase fuel consumption tell me... i thort it would coz... like more air requires more fuel right (air fuel ratio) so like if ya know for sure if it dose and how much would be good
cheers
There is a thread on removing it. Mixed opinions from people, some say it makes the car run like shit and decreases performance, others say it makes idle much smoother and drives better. Guess it has to do with the engine condition, I am yet to remove mine, but with all the critisim of removing it, don't think I'll bother.
i removed the bellmouth in my vr and it does nothing for performance but idles a little rougher givin it a nice burble
Don't remove the middle muffler, but take off the rear resonator...
I don't have a cat back system or aftermarket extractors yet mine has a nice warble...not a gay V6 Drone and forced whipple noise...like most other sixes...
anyway, you'd be pretty stupid to try and make it too loud...cops will hate you and make you pay for spoiling there day with an overly loud six exhaust (or lack thereof)...
take the catalytic converter off, also take the restrictor out of the air flow which is under the bonnet right where the throttle body is bolted to the engine. its a black cup that restricts air flow heaps. did it with my old vr and it helped it a fair bit.
extractors 2 1/2 exhaust system with high flow cat straight pipe and a muffler at the end it will be loud but expensive or u can drill holes in ur mufflers :P
if you want loud, put the 2.5" exhaust on and cut the exhaust short of the rear bumper by about 30 or 40cm, the closer the louder, but you risk distorting the plastic the closer you have it. I had mine running like this for about a year, without too much noticeable damage and it was only the gases that traveled past the lower part of the exhaust cutout, the gases that were pushed into the rear of the bumper didnt/hasnt done any damage.
I did this with my VS, you get a lot more of a rumble due to the pressure being pushed into the bumper. If its only 30 or 40cm short you're less likely to get done by the coppers and you'll probably get the volume you're after.
worst case scenario with this one is you weld a tip from where you've cut the pipe a little short.
cheap and easy beginning point.
kewl thanks.
So let me get this straight your Honda has 1.6Liters, whereas my bottle of Mountain Dew has 2?
nope not from nz
My VR V6 responded well to removing the bellmouth .... had it out for a while ... then one day put it back in, went for a test drive....then took it out again and went for another test drive .... there was definatly better throttle resonse and get up and go, with it out..... And there is no way it was a placebo effect here. May not do much but with a few other small mods i reckon it is worth taking it out.
Take it out to see for yourself.... best way to find out.
Maybe some cars respond differently, but mine will not be going back in![]()
