how hard is it to change the struts on a vs sedan v6?
Not too hard at all. You will need spring compressors though if yours isn't lowered.
With the car on the ground, crack the top nut on the strut, but don't remove it.
Jack the car up and support it with the suspension hanging.
Remove the wheels.
Undo the stabilizer bar link pins.
Remove the brake line from the bracket on the strut by twisting it until it slides out. (The black plastic holder has two flats on it that slide out through the bracket.)
Undo the two bolts that mount the strut to the stub axle.
Undo the top nut all the way, holding the strut so it doesn't drop out.
Support the assembly in a vice and crack the retaining nut on top of the strut.
Compress the spring until the nut is loose and remove it.
Remove each part of the bush and bearing making sure to keep them in order so you get them back in in the right order.
Remove the spring.
Assembly is the reverse.
While not essential, it is recommended to get a wheel alignment done as you have undone the bolt where the camber is adjusted.
thanx mate appreciate it
i didnt use spring compressors on my senator when i lowered it...(did with my stato) but all that happens is that when u rattle gun the bolt off the top i will knock your hand back...not break it or anything like that,
lol i had mine laying down on the ground facing my back yard..springs didnt go flying or anything like that. but that was fe2 springs...donno about standards.
hey my front shockies are stuffed and i rand up pedders and they said they will need 2 replace the whole strut and it will cost me $628 after a wheel allignment,is this right?and if so is the price a good?
any feed back would be awsome thanx
matt
about $250 for 2 new struts, $400 for labour. sounds a bit high, but i dont know what pedders struts are worth

yer thats with wheel alingment and checks and that,so im confused as 2 y u cant just change the actual shockie and have 2 do the whole strut
the front struts are one piece including the shock. you have to buy the whole thing, but they are not expensive anyway.
ohk, thanks 4 yr help mate.pedders want $628 4 the struts, labour and wheel allingment.i did the rear shockies myself but the front strut looks like a pain in the ass so i took it 2 them
