Been working on my 2nd VS for a few months now and decided maybe i should post some pics.
i originally planned to respray it in VS Calais Panther Mica and Silver 2 tone but plans changed and i need it on the road ASAP so after priming half the car i had to stop and now painting it white again.
while i had the car in parts though i have had time to start my interior mods and a few other things.
Started priming the car here
Interior before i started
Fromt parts painted ready to be installed
Started getting dark, ill get some better pics tomorrow
Pictures dont realy do it any justice, i expected the paint to look very cheap and crappy but i was very surprised at how well it came up, cant wait to see it with some new black seats and black carpet.
The black and the red look pritty good man , blend together nice
Didnt actually come up to bad i like it. Though a word of advice. From my experience painting the center console lid thing the paint will rub and flake off. I dont know how your brand of paint will react but that was my experience. Good luck with the rest of it.
it looks awesome man, wat sorta paint do you use to stick to the plastic ?? cant wait for the new pics
good to see your back doing up another vs, you going to be making her look the same as that white one u had or something different?
good clean start man keep addin piccys

Thanks, well i was thinking id go for a panther mica with chrome and SS lip kit, but i was just browsing through some old pics of my old VS and im tempted to go down the VX clubby kit road... i like the mean look it had.
Good thing is i learnt what did and didnt work with the last VS so im hoping that will kick start this project..
For now im thinking white, debadged, tints, extractors, exhaust, SUPER LOW and custom interior and when money get a bit better ill probably get a lip kit or VX kit, which ever is in the budget at the time.
HEres some better pics
And this is how she sit atm, final primer is on and ready for its final wet and dry, hoping to get the colour on this weekend and new windscreen soon after.
As for the paint, the black is a VHT final dye and the red is a plastic/vinyle paint from super cheap auto, the VHT comes from repco.
im expecting the centre console lid to crack/fade as my dad recently did his VN and it stuffed up in 2 weeks, if it fails ill most likely re cover it in some pleather.
Its a good idea to put a coat of clear on the centre console plastics, as the paint easily chips off if you drop things on it eg coins, keys etc.
are you going to do your air con vents to and the plastics over your seat belts???
shhh now PUPPET
the air con vents on the doors have been done black but im not sure what to do about the centre, im still deciding what to do about the instrument surround, if i paint that ill probably do the centre air con the same colour.
Another thing im thinking about is removing the centre air con vents and replacing it with some gauges, and replace the air con, hazard and demister buttons with red missle switches.
seat belts i havnt even thought about because they are likely to chip and scratch realy easy, after the seats and carpet are done i might experiment with them a bit more.
as for the clear on the centre console, i know it needs it but the problem is if i do put a clear on it will end up being glossy and then wont match the door trims, so my idea was to maybe cover all red parts in a thin stretchable PU leather, will look alot better and wont scratch. i may leave that for later down the track when i start customizing my centre console and cluster surround.
The steering wheel looks like its way too small!
doing the seat belt parts in black VHT should last and will look cleaner

I think id rather get some black seat belt buckles from another car rather than paint them, but thats low priority atm.
Picked up 2 litres of paint today and if the weather is going well ill have the car sprayed tomorrow, and back together for a cut and polish on tuesday. then all i need is some brake pads, a wheel bearing and its time for rego...
cant wait to be driving a VS again, i love my VZ and all as a cruiser but the VS just feels raw and its alot more fun to drive.
FAAARRRRK******
you just destroyed a nice commodre, all that paint will flake off in a few months.
Best to leave commodore trims grey
Some neons and diceballs will set it off though
The paint on vinyl will stay there for years if its looked after, the paint on the plastic wont flake because it was primed with plastic primer, the plastic will however scratch very easy as i have noticed, so ill hit it with a few coats of clear and it will be all good.
in time all red will be re covered with red PU Leather.
Managed to get a few coats of white on over the weekend, heres some updated pics

Coming along nice man, be interesting to see the final product
so are u painting this out in the open with acrylic,t curious on how your doin it all cos i mite give a back yard jobby ago but maybe in a shed if i clean it out
shhh now PUPPET
yup its out in the open.. its not the best quality paint job but its better than the original paint paint as it was faded and scratched..
basically im using a 2.5hp ait compressor which was bought from super cheap auto, an $80 gravity fed spray gun from super cheap auto.
i started by rubbing back the panels to paint with 240 wet and dry to take the shine off, repaired the dings, did 3-4 good coats of spray putty/primer, rubbed back with 800 then 1200 wet and dry.
bought 2 litres of J064 acrylic and 4 litres of aclac 20 acrylic thinners, mixed it 1 part paint 1.5 parts thinners and then just applied 3 coats of paint 10 minutes apart.
next parts is to rub back the last coat with some 1200 wet and dry to get out the dirta nd bugs that landed in the paint, give it 1 final thick wet coat, wait 2 days for it to harden, then a light 1200 wet and dry and then a cut and polish with a buff.
final result should looked pretty good to the naked eye, but an acrylic job in a back yard will never look as good as 2pac done in a spray booth and baked on.
Update
Car is mostly back together..
New bendex brake pads
New rear wheel bearing
Serviced engine
New windscreen is in
Hoping to get a blue slip next week and rego in 2-3 weeks, then ill finish spraying the passenger side, then i can start retrimming the interior.
Still need to remove the sikaflex from boot.
Took the VS for a spin tonight to see what else it needs for rego and wow i miss driving a VS, it just feels so raw compared to my VZ.. my mate described it like this.
Driving a VZ is like making love with a condom, smooth and safe
Driving a VS is like shagging without a condom, rough, raw and lots of fun
best paint for sticking to plastic and resisting peeling and fade due to skin contact is the heat proof paint that you get form supercheap (septone) I used it over a year ago to paint the slide on a pistol and you can imagine how much that gets toutched and it has no rub off or wear evident so far. needs to be left for at least a week in the warmest environment possible to set properly.
^^^^^^lol good job man shes comin up a treat
