theres no cop chip, and your covers are on backwards

Like stocky said, theres no such thing as a cop chip, unless your talking macca's fries., in which case, they will be in a red container, not dissimilar to the ones you buy yourself (cept they pay half price)

Well the old head unit has been giving me trouble recently...cutting in and out and doing wierd things so I pulled the old Sony unit (XR-7070 circa 1991 - yes it is older than the car) out today.
Thanks very much to Atriedae for his excellent How To with great photos and simple wording - Complete VN,VP,VR,VS,VQ,VG Headunit Guide [56k warning] - for helping make it a pretty simple job in the end.
Tried cleaning the contacts as suggested by holdenboy in another thread with cotton buds and rubbing alchohol. Geez were they dirty but unfortunately it didn't make any difference. Still cutting in and out at irregular intervals.
So with the dash in bits on the back seat, time to go shopping.
Didn't want to spend too much (I'm not much of a doof doof head). Endned up grabbing one of these - Car CD player with direct iPod® control - DEH-2100IB :: Pioneer Australia - for $190. Think I got a reasonable deal.
It comes with an ipod cable as well so ran this to the glovebox to keep it out of the way.
Connected up nice and easy, put the dash back together and now I have tunes again.....and they don't sound too bad either. Hooray !!!
It's the first stereo install I've done since I put one in my LX Torana in the late 80's so pretty happy with the end result.
Heads & Cammed, Soon to be Blown
Have recently had a slowly worsening vibration generally between 1600 & 2000 rpm whether reving in park/neutral or driving at any speed. Most irritating between around 85 - 100 km p/h when sitting in that rev range.
Had it in for a service and replaced the following ;-
Engine & Gearbox mounts (were collapsed & or split)
Water pump (noisy bearings but not yet leaking - better to be safe than sorry)
Harmonic Balancer (vibration hadn't gone after changing the mounts)
Heater tap (so that's where the coolant was going !)
Appears the harmonic balancer was the culprit for the vibration as changing the mounts didn't really effect the vibration a great deal.
The car is much more enjoyable to drive now. Just have to find a replacement butt masager !!
howz it going mate just wandering u wouldnt have a pic of the setup of the ipod into the glove box was thinking about puting mine into the center consloe
Haven't got any photos handy. Will try and get some up on the weekend.
It is pretty simple though - the iPod cable plugs into the rear of the head unit and runs behind the dash into the back of the glovebox and the iPod just sits in the glovebox and is charged whenever the stereo is on whether using the iPod or not. Control the iPod via the stereo or the stereo remote. Works a treat and it stops the iPod floating around the cabin as well.
Some pics of the headunit and iPod in the glove box plus some other misc shots.
The iPod has a silicon/crsytal cover so is pretty well protected.
Had the joy of no starting on Thursday morning. Would turn over but not fire up.
Had Error Code 46 - No Reference Signal while cranking .
Turned out the Hall Effect Sensor was cactus (like every other 5 litre so it seems) so new dizzy in and all is good....until the next problem arises !!!
All these $$$$ spent on repairs lately.....comes with the territory on a 15 yr old nearing 200,000 km car I suppose. But cheaper than interest and depreciation on a newer one.
what other probs you been having?
go the BT1's!!!!![]()
Aside from the repairs listed above in the last month or so most things seem OK at the moment...touch wood !
I have noticed a bit of a vibration / creaking sounds from time to time coming from the rear in the last few days. i think it might be the exhaust touching the panhard rod. It isn't constant, just sometimes when idling or taking off slowly.
Can't hear it when I take of quicker or are cruising along. Not a real biggy, more annoying than anything. Should't be too hard to sort out.
Picked this up yesterday for a good price and chucked it on this morning.

Maybe the car has had a good detail? Cop chips are usually found under the passenger seat, along with doughnut pieces and spilt coffee...
Nice car, I have one too that has a few left overs from it's duty dayz, it is a strange feeling contemplating what sort of "work" this car may have seen, good I'm behind the wheel this time lol.
Thanks mate. Only added the front lip. Don't really like the rest of the kit. Haven't done much to it lately. Gave it a good polish a couple of weeks ago..the old Maguires 3 step - paint cleaner, polish & wax. After about 5 hours work by hand it came up pretty good.
Need to get the suspension looked at though. It's got a rattly/squeaky sound in the right front when it goes over bumps. I think it might be sway bar link bushes or similar. Haven't replaced any front end bushes since I've owned it and with over 200,000 kms on it now I am dreading the verdict !!!
BTW, I'm in Gwelup.
LOL...yeah no food scraps in mine.
Yeah aside from the well known cop stuff like sump guards, stealth dash lights, quick shift from drive to 2nd etc they also have other little bits and pieces around them from their civic duty days like the rubber gromet in the drivers side B pillar from the roof top lights, the "surplus" cables under the carpet and the "Commissioner of Police" as the first owner in the hand book.
Mine was unmarked, so has extra wiring looms under bonnet and a weird plug in the glove box, I assume to plug the flashing light into.
