looks nice mate will be good on its ass with black windows
nice 5L mate..more pics and let us know wat it pulls up on the dyno
thanks guys, will definately let you know about the power. Not expecting much but mainly using the dyno to map all the strengths and weaknessed of this VR.
Soon will be lowering, new shocks, blaccccck tint and maybe clean set of VY signatures.
Any suggestions?
dont happen to live in perth do you? seen one like this around lately
No, am up north in Karratha.
Will be in Perth in about a month, any recomended places for Tints and another place for Shift Kits in Perth?
Previously had a vz Clubby 6L and lived in Brissy so dont really know any places in Perth and the cost of everything in this town is 10 times more than anywhere!
Which hole in the ground are you blessed to be in?
If heaven is living with bush aboriginals in 50 Degree heat then tell mum i made it!
Is a tough life but we wouldnt be in these crappy areas unless the money was good!~
Am planning on doing a reasonably comprehensive service on the SS before i get it on the Dyno to check how its all running. I have bout the following parts and planning to replace / use them over the weekend:-
Oil Filter and engine oil.
Air Filter.
Transmission Filter, Gasket and Oil.
Dizzy Cap and Rotar (Should probably replace coil when its all apart).
Injector Cleaner.
Coolant and Radiator Flush.
Throttle body cleaner.
NGK Sparkplugs (leads in the mail)
Upper radiator hose (mail)
Suspension is next on my list!
I am not a mechanic so am unsure as to what else would be worthwhile flushing / replacing / swapping in an attempt to get the car running as well as possible. Please take into consideration that this motor has done 170000 km's.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!
Cheers guys
Today removed throttle body for decent cleaning. A reasonable build up of carbon but nothing major. Easy task to do. Throttle Body looking brand new but planning on replacing with a larger one over the next few months. Managed to get flat battery in the process!
Removed old sparkplugs. Old ones were Champion brand still in pretty good nick with a small amount of "soot" buildup. Right hand side was easy to get out but the ABS module on the left side made the top two sparkplugs fairly painful to remove. Replaced with NGK 4974 BPR6EF. Fires up well. Planning on replacing leads, dizzy cap an rotor shortly. Waiting on coil.
Prepped more of the interior for paint. Recieved new floor carpet in mail. That'll be next weekends mission! Need to order new handbrake and just blew rear left brake light bulb.
hey dude i heard tko tint in east vic park is good. a lil pricey but u get what u pay for in the end. they do awesome custom tints too which i think will be perfect for yr car. hopin to get my vs done wit 16% tints wen i get the money, well b4 next summer neway
cheers mate, will definately check it out when in the area! The tint pirates up here want in excess of $700 for a basic tint. No way im paying that. Will definately be headin to perth for all major work
Today, changed engine oil and engine filter. Another simple task. Test drove car for first time since changing sparkplugs, throttle body and engine oil and filter.
Drove well UNTIL..................
Was doing 120 on highway, let go of accelerator and car kept going as through cruise control was enabled. Foot on brakes - car slowed slightly but kept going, played with cruise control switch - car kept going!. I put car in nuetral and drifted to side of road, popped bonnet and it appeared that the throttle was sticking open. Manually closed the throttle.
Luckily i was only about a kilometer away from home so i put it back to drive, put down accelerator and the throttle stuck again. The only way to get round the corners was sliding it as i couldnt lower the throttle. The driveway was a pain in the ass as i had to put foot hard down on brakes to slow down, this only made the rear wheels spin with the car still launching forward.
Slid the car into the driveway, killed the engine and popped the bonnet.
For some reason the arm that links the cruise control to the throttle lever was jamming open after high revs. Removed the bolt joining the arm to the throttle - took it for a drive and she drove beautifully!
Cruise control is dam evil
yup thats the pilbara for ya, everything so expensive. i was qouted 290 for full sedan tint with 16% film. u cud get custom job for less then 700
thats cheapest ive seen for the Pilbara!
Added another photo up at the first post. It really shows how bad this car wants tint and to be dropped! And i really gotta get new tyres so i can have the VY SS 18's the whole way round.
lowered before tint tho..the ground there looks so good to make some dust and understand wat u mean u do live in the middle of no where ,how do u have internet??
getting lowered, tinted, an shift kitted all in same week when i go to perth! Should be a major transformation.
Ground here is definately dust all year round. My Dogs can tunnel out of the yard in 2 seconds flat. Awesome going to the speedway watching the cars go round the slippery track. Always mayhem. Perfect for dirtbikes too!
Ah and the best thing about living out here is that burnouts are accepted anywhere. Coppers dont care unless a member of the public complains. And i am yet to find one person in this town (approx 1000 people - 90% of which are aboriginal) that doesnt love burnouts.
Definately has its good points!!
nice vs bro...u should put diff gears in your list of mods 2 realy get the beast moving
cant forget the diff gears! not sure as the best ratio to get yet tho. How much would you expect to pay a mechanic for the whole setup?
thats not bad at all mate, sounds nice an cheap mod to do. Will definately look more into it when in Perth. Hopefully be out that way within a month.
Got new leads leads today, Repco didnt have topgun or MSD so got champion brand. if they are shithouse i will change them out down the track. Getting new battery tomorrow. Prepped and painted more of the interior.
Monday brings a transmission service and maybe fit the new carpet
Finally got the tranmission done but cant test it because of flat battery. Not as simple of a task as i expected!
Figured out that the exhaust is more like 3 inch rather than 2.5 - great - except it blocks the tranmission pan. The section i had to remove was where the headers go from 2 into 1 up untill just before the cats. Was a major pain as one of the bolts in the exhaust was impossible to reach with anything. And i was only using axle stands! Done now, filter and oil was black as ever! Nice and red now!
Finally got new seats for interior. Black leather coulson seats (if thats how you spell it) from the vt HSV. Sweetest looking seats but will require some modification to fit! Cannot wait, picking them up this weekend in Perth. Also comes with the door cards with leather trim. The card's will most probably be impossible to fit so will probably end up selling.
Please let me know if anyone here has fitted VT HSV seats to a VR before. Floor lining is ripped out now so shouldnt be too hard modifying rails etc. If no one has done it please recommend a fitter in Perth that may be able to install it,
Any feedback much appreciated!
Cheers guys
When you change address make sure you tell the Transport Department!
I got pulled over yesterday taking car to Dyno. Appearantly my licence was suspended two weeks ago for unpaid fine AND rego expired two weeks ago. I got slapped with Driving whilst suspended and driving an unregistered vehicle, court yet to come. THAT is a BAD day.
I am very lucky i didnt get a "yellow" sticker, i had no roof lining, no floor lining, no consoles and ONE seat in the car! I think the copper felt sorry for me! Mode of transport for next while will have to be the bike. This allows me to do some bigger mods on car!
Stay tuned.
