hey man i would take my hat off to u if i was wearing one! lol that is a great effort really brilliant
i hate people telling me it can,t be done aswell
G'day all, I thought I would post a few pics of my Ex-Ambulance VR Ute, which I made a canopy for. Everywhere I enquired about a canopy for it, they said that no-one makes one and that it cant be done. Well, telling me something cant be done is the wrong thing to do, I take it as a challenge. So here is the results of that challenge. Basically, I bought 2 canopies and cut and joined them. There were a few challenges, like the fact that canopies for VR's are higher at the back than at the front, and considering each half had to be 290mm longer than half a standard canopy, because the stretched utes are 580mm longer than standard. This meant that the 2 halves nowhere near matched up, so as you can imagine, there is quite a bit of fibreglass and body-filler moulding involved. The other big challenge was the windows, you cant cut and join glass!(LOL) so I had to fill in the extra length of window frame with sturdy sheet aluminium and paint it black to try and make it less noticable. All in all I think it worked out pretty good for a first effort. Let me know what ya think.

That looks great, well done, looks like a factory fitI'm amazed they don't make them for the stretched utes.
awesome job looks good
nice. seen a guy with one of theses utes and he made a canopy for his that turned it in to a camper. kinder looked like a panel van on heat lol
we have two stretch utes for work. the canopy you made is pretty damn good, well done. do you still have the old ambo back that they had? before we converted our second one back to a ute, we used the canopy to sit extra people in and it was handy at the footy haha.
Need some parts for my VH 253:
Green standard steering wheel...Green lower B-pillar covers.
Green sunglasses holder/lower dash bits...Air-con and assorted engine bay parts.
PM with any info.
very good job mate, couldn't even see where they have been joined, very neat.
nice job mate love the stretch utes i want one haha
Thanks guys,
If ya look real close you can see the join, but most people wouldnt notice it. And to answer your Q stretchomatic, it just came as a ute, it didnt have the ambulance back on it when I bought it. These photos were taken when I finished the conversion last year, and I just never got around to posting them before now. I have sold my business now, so no ladder on top anymore, and I have put a mattress in the back, up on a wooden base, so it desnt get wet if any water leaks in. It is now my wife and I's weekend camper for little trips down the coast now that the kids are all growed up like! (wink wink (LOL))I have put a light in the back and some curtains, and there is plenty of room for a small area to store clothes and stuff. It aint the Taj Mahal, but makes for a good cheap getaway, as it runs on LPG!. A King Single mattress fits in real nice and is easily wide enough for both of us, as neither of us are very big. Anyway, I am happy with the way it worked out.
